Return address for invitations

New, on May 3, 2017 at 6:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

Hi WW community,

What is the proper return address to use for wedding invitations? We share a residence, so how should it appear on the envelope? Thanks!

We ordered return address stickers from Vistaprint. Since we aren't married yet/don't share the same last name, we just put:

FH's First Name & My First Name

    Our Shared Address

    City, State, Zip

    United States

ETA: We also included a monogram initial of his last name that is included in a bunch of our wedding decor.

    What? We just have:

    Sunshine & Jeremy

    777 Sunshine Avenue

    Sunshine, CA 81818

I ordered a stamp that only has our new last name on it, no first names.

ETA: Sunshine, I wanted to do that (just our first names) and was told by multiple people a last name was required for the post office!!

We used our initials and our return address is my parent's home because we weren't sure if our house was going to be ready by then. Also, I wanted to make sure they would be sent to safer location. We live in an apartment complex currently and there are two different addresses in our complex.

I was thinking along the lines of @Nicole H. Do most just use first names?

Weird, @Rebecca! We haven't had a problem. We got a few STDs returned and they came back easy peas with just our first names. My last name is really long so it would look soooo long and odd if we did both of our last names on a stamp or wrote them out.

We just used our first names and our address. We didn't have any problems with USPS and not receiving our RSVPs, but just be aware that I think, legally, a letter has to have a first and last name to be delivered so it is possible you wouldn't get them back if you only use first names.

We did Ms. Erin Wood & Mr. Nicholas Smith

    Then address.

We wanted to keep things formal.

@Rebecca I get mail all the time that only has a return address, no first & last names or company names. you can also send mail with NO return address at all.

We used our full names in case one side didn't know the other's last name for the hotel blocks or registry. It's on our website but many aren't tech savvy. So we did Laura Smith & Paul Smith and our address.

I don't know what's proper, but we did "The Future Mr & Mrs Last Name, Address..."

Thanks, everyone for the helpful advice. I think I'll order some labels with both our full names so the recipient knows who it's from and no issues w USPS. Appreciate the input!

We just used first names. No trouble besides the normal trouble with USPS

ETA: there are no name requirements for the postal service. You just need all address components.
