Restaurant Wedding Dinner - Itinerary

Isa_fe, on January 17, 2020 at 1:39 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

Hello!

I'd like to have a dinner to celebrate our wedding. We will not be doing a ceremony on the same day, as we are planning on already being married by then. If anything, we would do a couples dance, but that is highly unlikely. We just want a casual dinner celebration. I already have a restaurant in mind, and we will have a private dining area to accommodate all of us. My questions/concerns are as follows:

What schedule does one follow? How to keep guests entertained during apps/dinner/dessert? Games? Activities? Any ideas would be appreciated. Haven't determined if we would host 10 immediate family members, or up to 30 close family and friends.

Thanks for your help!

If you're just having dinner at a restaurant, I don't see why you'd really need a schedule or games/activities. I would think it would be rather straight forward lol (arrive, appetizers, dinner, dessert, depart)

I'm doing a dinner ceremony and we aren't doing any of that. Just letting it run it's course with drinks and a lot of talking!

Yes, typically that would be the case; however, I'd like to have some sort of activity to do. Something small. Maybe an icebreaker. Some members of the family would be meeting each other for the first time.

I suppose you could have an icebreaker activity if you really want to, but I wouldn't do that personally. In my experience, icebreakers really just make everyone more uncomfortable lol (flashbacks to high school and college classes). Also, these are all adults so I think they'd be plenty capable of just mingling amongst themselves and getting to know one another over drinks and a meal Smiley smile

I agree, I am a teacher and I've been a corporate trainer, most people HATE ice breakers. I would, however, try to set up the cocktails and appetizers so that people are more likely to stand and mingle rather than have everyone immediately go to their seat and be served cocktails & apps. If your space would work, perhaps have the apps set up as a buffet and have servers circulate and take beverage orders, so people are more likely to stand up, introduce themselves to those they don't know and chat. You might also ask one or two attendees who tend to be more outgoing to help you by making a point to engage with everyone. Other than that, I agree you don't really need any "planned activities," except perhaps a speech or toast to thank everyone for coming. Good luck!
