Response time for Hired Photographer

Elisha, on February 26, 2020 at 11:50 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hi guys! I was just wondering if anyone has had difficulty with their photographers in regards to them responding about your personal questions regarding your engagement sessions/wedding location? I already hired my photographer who doesn't seem to be very responsive (i.e I've waited up to 2 weeks for a response and then had to double text or email in which he finally responded) when I ask questions regarding upcoming events. I was wondering how others have handled a difference in communication expectation between their photographers? Thank you!!

Did you pay a deposit? I see your wedding is 2021 so maybe they feel that it is not upcoming so not hurry on their end but I would communicate to them that you prefer communication to questions.

I already paid a deposit unfortunately. And I can understand the lack of urgency since my wedding is in 2021, but I plan on doing engagement photos in April-May. I’ll bring up the preference regarding communication for questions. Thanks so much for your input!!! I really appreciate it!

I never waited more than 1-2 days (but typically 1 day) for a response from our photographer! And I sure as hell would not have waited 2 weeks! Have you told your photographer that the response time is concerning to you? Have you reviewed your contract to see what you would lose by breaking your contract and firing him? Also, did you check reviews before booking him?

Not a problem. I had an issue with a photographer that never even communicated to go forward with hiring (just as well....got a better photographer I wanted) but I did let this photographer know that communication and professionalism is most important to me and I think she understood that I like prompt communication. I would nicely email her saying that you have not heard and you are just concerned that there has not been a response. Once the photographer responds and all is sorted out maybe just mention that you do not mean to be abrupt but that you like communication in a timely fashion and hope that they understand. Sure you are not the first bride that wants communication lol.

I haven't brought up the issue yet, but I've mentioned "Hi ___ I was wondering if you received my recent messages regarding ___ ? I wanted to verify "etc. etc" So I guess I did mention it but not in a straight forward manner. I did look at our contract to see what I would lose which is the deposit and unfortunately the deposit was a good chunk of the cost. I did check all the reviews about him and surprisingly they were all extremely positive which is why I'm so confused why I rarely hear back from him.

I'll take that advice! I'm just horrible at finding the right wording when it comes to confronting an issue. I think the way you stated it was exactly the kind of message that I want to give to him.

I would let him know that you are eager to schedule your engagement photos before his spring schedule books up. Hopefully that will get his attention. Hopefully once your wedding gets a little closer, his communication will become better with you.
