Response from Jetblue re: flying w/ wedding dress

McD to McC, on August 14, 2018 at 8:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14
Hi everyone!
I emailed JetBlue about carrying on my wedding dress & below is their response. I just wanted to share in case anyone else is flying JetBlue.

“Though we wish the happy couple the best, JetBlue does not make special allowances for the transport of wedding attire. Whether it is packed in check-in baggage or a carry-on, wedding or bride's maid dresses, suits or tuxedos, would still have to meet the baggage requirements to/from specific destinations. There are no closets for hanging clothing items or garment bags on the A320 or E190. Closets on the A321 are reserved for onboard wheelchair stowage.
Customers may wish to have wedding attire shipped separately. Information on specific shipping companies is available in the yellow pages or Internet.
Some of our customers do choose to bring their wedding attire in garment bags in hopes of lying them on top of the luggage in the overhead bins, and you are welcome to do the same; however, please be aware that this would be contingent on space allowed and if the necessary room was not available, the garment bags would need to be placed under the seat in front of you.”

This is every airline not just JetBlue. Most planes don't have closets anymore or lush overhead space.

UGH this sucks! That’s like special cargo. I’d be nervous the whole time transporting my dress!

My seamstress helped me pack my dress into my carry on. She has cardboard for the cups section so they don’t crush and then rolled it up with tissue paper in between. She actually suggested not bringing it in a garment bag and laying it on top of luggage as it may inadvertently get crushed, caught on the closure, and so on.

I dont think id even feel comfortable bringing my dress on a plane to begin with. Too much risk of it getting ruined or lost.

Ugh! I'm so glad my dress is just tea length so I can try to fit it in carry on luggage.

I am going to play accordion with mine and stuff it in a carryon. I have a company ready to steam when I arrive. It's big though... Lol Bridal store suggested those comforter size vaccum bags things. My dress is tulle so it shouldn't hurt it too bad, right??

I would ship it. It sounds like your best option.

Thanks for this! Not that I am taking JetBlue (I am taking Southwest) but everything I read online pretty much states that all airlines are this way. I am 90% sure I am going to fold mine into a hard case carry on (hard case so that rain or anything liquid can't get in and ruin the dress). I also may use a vacuum sealed bag to help make it fit. Everyone is different but I deff wouldn't ship my dress, what happens if it gets lost and doesn't arrive??! And I don't plan on putting it in checked luggage because again worse case scenario what if it doesn't arrive. I will deff have it on me at all times. Good luck with whatever decision you make and happy wedding day!

I 100% used this as an excuse to get a set of new hard-case luggage... My dress isn’t big and doesn’t wrinkle, so I’m not super worried about packing it in a carryon. I just wanted to be sure about the garment bag thing. I’m actually more worried about FH’s suit since that probably will wrinkle. Dress & suit will be the only things in the hard case carry on. Everything else will be in FH’s carry on or the checked bag.

Smiley laugh I laughed at this!

Glad I found so many discussions on this topic, I was wondering what other ladies have done. I will be flying Jetblue and have already made my peace with having to buy an extra plane ticket for my dress. As long as watch for the lowest price, I should be fine. Rather be safe than sorry.

Did it keep the dress from getting wrinkled?
