Resizing engagement ring :(

Lauren, on December 24, 2016 at 8:08 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

I finally went and got my engagment ring resized from an 8 to 6 3/4 and even a 6.5 fit in the store but to account for swelling we went up a bit. It fit great when I picked it up the other day but than yesterday I went to put it in in the morning and it doesn't fit over my knuckleSmiley sad I was so afraid to resize it and now I have to go back and resize again Smiley sad curse having fat fingers in the morning. Anyone else have to resize multiple times?

It sounds like your finger fluctuates in size a lot. You could ask your jeweler about getting sizing beads put in to help.

When we were measuring the 7 fit great I thought but I had a stone fall out and she said that would keep happening. I lost about 45 pounds from the time I got it until now so 8 was so large it just fell off my finger

    I second the sizing beads.

Definitely agree with sizing beads. You shouldn't resize your ring too many times as it can negatively impact the integrity of the ring.

I'm really surprised they let you resize it from an 8 to a 6/75- that's a big jump.

Give a few hours- there are days when I can't wear my ring- it fits great about 85% of the time- but like last Friday- something I ate was super salty- or the air pressure did a thing or something- but I squeezed it on in the morning- and by like 8:30-9 AM I felt like it was cutting into my fingers so I took it off. So I have days where I can't wear my ring- but the other days- fits great- so I just keep it that size.

But like LG said- you have to be careful with so many resizings- it weakens the metal.

If your fingers swell at night, don't wear your engagement ring to bed.

My fingers fluctuate a lot in size too. Most days I don't have a problem, especially now that it's colder, but there are days when I can't wear mine either. Just give it a few hours. You shouldn't resize your ring so much because like others have said, it compromises the integrity of your ring.

I did have to resize mine twice (I was way off when I told my poor fiance my size), but the second time I don't think they actually went down as far as needed. I think they did this because there are diamonds along the band which would start cutting into my fingers if we went smaller. Smiley sad I just wear a ring guard which is kind of annoying but oh well. Down the road I may spend the money to get it reset so that we can go smaller (or just wait for my fingers to get fatter lol)

I don't wear it to bed, the problem is that it's going to be to small come summer because my fingers do swell. I'm going to go talk to them today and see what I should do

Mine fit perfectly when we ordered it but I've gained weight unfortunately and it is terrible to try and get off. The only time I take it off is when I'm showering, but I have to put my hand under water to get it off at all. I was going to have mine resized but I plan to lose weight and I didn't want to have to resize it again so I haven't yet.

With my engagement ring for my first marriage, I ended up wearing sizing beads for a few years bc I did not want to mess with the structure of the ring. Like PPs said, that's a good option for you.

I want to resize mine due to my chubby fingers and swelling. I feel like it's a little too tight

Why do you take it off overnight? My fingers swell overnight so that I can't get my rings off in the morning. I take a shower and then take them off after my shower while I get ready. There's no reason for you to be taking your rings on and off so much. If you keep resizing it, you will likely damage the ring.

@annakay511 I take mine off overnight too. It scratches me if I don't. I also take it off when I work out because it feels uncomfortable when I am lifting weights. There is nothing wrong with taking your ring off.

I take my ring off at night, showering. At night it can snag on the sheets and can loosen stones. The chemicals from showering and washing hands and what not is damaging too. I take it off working out too. White gold scratches easily. Taking my ring off more protects it

My fiance ended up getting a seven for my sausage fingers. I feel so bad considering we need to get it resized 3 sizes up. I'm hoping that it works and we don't have to take the ring back. We got it on a really great sale and if we take it back than we're back to the drawing board financially and I've fallen in love with it Smiley sad
