Resetting my engagement ring

Jmw, on September 25, 2019 at 12:20 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4
My fiancé proposed and I would like to reset the ring he gave me and incorporate my family heirloom into the ring (or replace completely). I think this might upset my fiancé but incorporating the ring is very important to me. I was thinking of using part of the ring to design his wedding band to keep the entire ring into the marriage. Thoughts?

Can you use your family heirloom in your wedding band or does it HAVE to be the engagement ring?

Talk to your FH. He might be upset but also he should understand and would want you to be happy with something that has to be on your finger all the time.

I agree with PP that you should discuss this with your FH. See what he feels most comfortable with what happens to the ring he bought!

Did you tell him that you wanted the heirloom incorporated into your engagement ring before he bought it? If so, and he just didn't do it, that's on him. But if you didn't, I wouldn't blame your FH if he was upset that you want to basically redesign the ring that he picked and proposed to you with. I agree with PP, can you incorporate the heirloom into your wedding band?

Is there a way to incorporate the ring as your wedding band? I think you should definitely sit down and talk to FH about this and what his feelings are towards resetting the engagement ring.
