Request of songs...

MrsLabrec, on April 5, 2017 at 1:32 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 21

Hi WW friends! Smiley smile

Happy hump day.

I was curious if anyone sent a "request a song card" with their invites?

We have a great dj but, we have such a variety of ages and I want to make sure everyone's happy with the music.

Something like this:

TIA!

We did but we just put a line on the rsvp card - we didn't add a whole card dedicated to it. We just sent our invites out the other day so we haven't received any yet!

A friend of mine did this... I'm not sure why though, because their DJ didn't play any of the songs requested.

We didn't, but our DJ had an online request form. Instead, I had a page on our website for song requests that linked to the DJ's form. He did play several of the songs on there, but paid more attention to the separate request list provided by myself and DH and I think he omitted guest request songs that he didn't feel matched the vibe of what the guests were actually up dancing to throughout the evening.

I think it's a cute idea, and I thought about doing it. No need for a separate card but I agree with adding a line to the RSVP!

We didn't include a request card, however there is a section on our wedding website for song requests

@BlueHenBride I like that idea however the older generation of our family doesn't know how to use the computer so that would be too complicated

@Hannah, yeah, FH and I were really excited about the song we chose, and a few other people including the Bride and Groom were annoyed that they didn't play anything from the list they were given, just whatever they wanted. I found out later the DJ was a friend of the FOG, vote no for friendors...

I never even thought about just adding it to the rsvp. Smart! I actually am meeting with someone next week who will hopefully be doing our invites. Super excited ??

My friend did this for her wedding. They had a song request line on their RSVP cards. So we requested a song but then the DJ wouldn't play it because the Bride and Groom told him not to play any country music. I was kind of annoyed. I don't even love country music and I understand not wanting to have certain music played at your wedding, but then don't ask your guests for input if you are going to ignore it.

For the most part I think a good DJ can feel out the vibe of the room and what music is keeping people on the dance floor. So we aren't doing any kind of song requests from guests ahead of time.

We put it on the rsvp and literally 5 out of 80 cards were returned with a song on them

We are doing a line on our RSVP cards, and our DJ is the type where we give him a list of songs we want played, so we will make sure we get the requests on the list.

We put this on our RSVP cards and are currently getting them back. Most of the younger crowd are putting down songs while our older relatives are leaving it blank. I think it's a fun way to include your guests.

Hannah - while we chose not to do online RSVPs because we had older guests who we didn't think could handle that, the online song request form for guests did not dissuade our older guests from participating in requesting songs ahead of the event. It was split 50/50 between oldies and more current hits, and while I had to field a couple troubleshooting questions when the password didn't work for an older guest and remind her that the caps lock probably needed to be off, any guest who truly wanted to submit song requests made it happen.

We chose to do the online form only because that was the platform our DJ provided and asked us to use. In retrospect, I'm glad we did it online and separate from the RSVP cards. I think putting it on the RSVP card would make more guests feel like they had to choose a song because it was part of the RSVP. A few may realize they could skip it, but some people who might really not have a desire to request a song, would feel like they need to put one down anyway. With ours being separate from the RSVP, we did get less guest requests, but we only got them from people who really wanted to request songs. They also had the freedom to request multiple songs. Given that we received some strange requests from our smaller pool of requests, I would hate to see that on a larger scale had our song request form been part of our RSVP card and more guests felt like they needed to contribute something. Our DJ would have had more songs to triage and decide if he could, in good conscience, play that at our wedding. With a greater volume of requests, there would have been less time for the songs DH and I wanted and zero room for the DJ to do his job and play songs he felt would keep everyone on the dance floor based on what guests were responding well to already.

So yes, with the online form there was a smaller volume of responses, but no, it did not inhibit the older generation who we thought couldn't handle technology from participating and having participation only from the few guests that actually wanted to make requests was not a bad thing.

We put the song request on our RSVP's. So far we are getting mixed reactions to it. I have had a couple people call and ask if they could request 2 songs even, should make up for some people not writing in one.

Wendy-One of FH aunt's requested a Randy Travis song....I am so not a fan. However, if that song will get her up and dancing and having a good time then I will get up there with her and enjoy myself. We plan on honoring all requests that get written down on RSVP's but may cut off requests from guests at that point.

We included it on our RSVP cards. Aside from Don't Stop Believing, which EVERYONE who has ever gone out with me knows I despise, we are waiting to outright ban songs until after the RSVP cards are returned. If four people want to hear Living on a Prayer, I will suck it up for five minutes.
