Reputable online ordination

Masada, on December 20, 2016 at 9:36 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

I wanted to check here first to see if anyone could give me advice on how to go about becoming an officiant ? I'll be honest, haven't spent too much time investigating yet (everything i found didnt seem reputable) and wanted to ask the experts (that means you fine ladies and gents) first. I'm getting married in Minnesota and have all of the paperwork ready for when our officiant is good to go, it's just a matter of getting him... officiated. Thank you!

N Minnesota, licensed or ordained clergy members may officiate weddings but must register with the county. Attorney Alan Brinkmeier points to Chapter 517 of the Minnesota statute on domestic relations, which states, “Ministers of any religious denomination, before they are authorized to solemnize a marriage, shall file a copy of their credentials of license or ordination with the court administrator of the district court of a county in this state, who shall record the same and give a certificate thereof.”

Others allowed to officiate include current and retired judges, current and retired court administrators, a former court commissioner, plus — very specifically — the residential school superintendent of the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf and the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind. In Fillmore and Olmstead counties, the Third Judicial District may appoint a court commissioner to solemnize civil marriages.

Finally, Minnesota also recognizes those chosen by particular faiths to solemnize a marriage, specifically Friends or Quakers, those of the Baha’i faith, Hindus, Muslims, and American Indian

Would suggest you call the county, and this may be out of date.

Sorry I should have been more detailed (on my phone) is there an reputable online way to become an officiant that anyone has used? The officiant lives in Colorado but would be registered in the county we are getting married in.

Hire a pro. The only important vendor that day is an officiant. There have been too many horror stories on here of couples who used friends as an officiant, only to have them not file the paperwork. There have also been stories where the words to make the union legal aren't said, Save yourself the gait and hire a good professional.

The people who can help you are the vendors. And you've blocked them.

Wise. You're off to a great start.

@JoRocka the OP may not realize that blocking vendors blocks suggestions. When I first started on here, I was thinking it would mean blocking vendor advertisements from my posts. I don't know if that's the case here, but it's a possibility.

I didn't know that. Noted for next time I post.
