Replacing keyhole back with an illusion back?

K, on June 21, 2021 at 10:33 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
Has anyone ever done this? When I bought my dress, I didn’t really think that much about the back. All of the samples I tried on were several sizes too big, so I actually never really got to see or appreciate the backs on any of the gowns I tried because they were all basically clipped shut, so it wasn’t really on my radar.

The dress I bought has a keyhole back. It’s actually really nice, but now that I’ve been looking at everyone’s beautiful dresses, I kind of wonder if I would prefer an illusion back. I also have a tattoo between my shoulder blades that I think the top strap on the keyhole might hit in an awkward place. I won’t know until the dress in my size comes in. I do think they keyhole is pretty, so if it wasn’t doable or if it was expensive, I would be happy with it the way it is.
Also, I feel like maybe this dress needs some interest on the skirt. Do y’all know of anything they might be able to do that’s not too expensive or extravagant? Thanks!
P.S. the version of this I ordered is lined in the bodice, not sheer as shown in the model. If that mattersReplacing keyhole back with an illusion back? 1

That dress is gorgeous! I think the simplicity of the skirt draws more attention to the beautiful lace bodice. Anything you add to the skirt might detract from that.

What a beautiful dress. Are you able to share a picture of the kind of illusion back you mean? I think some options would be possible, depending on the way the dress is constructed, but others maybe not - if you show us what you mean it will be easier to give advice Smiley smile

Thank you! Well, I’m thinking I would need to keep it on the simple side. I do like the way these kinds of backs look, but maybe I’d want the buttons to stop below my tattoo and have the illusion material sort of v into themReplacing keyhole back with an illusion back? 2

Thank you! It’s good to hear that feedback. I keep coming back to adding something to the skirt, or getting a Lacey veil to go with, but I’m worried about taking away from the bodice as well

I think it would be possible, but maybe not cheap! Your essentially need to remove the top section of the back altogether and replace with the sheer fabric of the illusion back. There’s certainly no harm in getting some quotes, right?

Definitely, thanks! I’ll only have two weeks to do alterations between my dress coming in and my wedding, so it will definitely be tight!
