Renting vs Buying Chair Covers

Sj, on November 19, 2017 at 11:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

Did you rent or buy your chair covers? Our reception space has unfortunate red and gold banquet chairs and our colors are purple and gray/silver. Is it worth it to buy them and try to resell them? What website did you get yours at? Thanks!

As for renting verses buying. If you catch the right sale buying would be cheaper. But the resale could be easy as well. Just may have to enter them on various sites for a quick sale

How much does it cost to just rent alternate chairs where you live? I really hate chair covers. A mass of white will do nothing for your color scheme.

To answer your question of rent or buy, I would rent. The chances that you can re-sell any that you buy could be difficult.

Now to my opinion (as someone who has put on more events than others may have attended. No one will remember the chairs. Once guests are seated, the chairs are no longer visible. Save your funds, and go with the chairs at the venue...no covers.

Don't forget that set-up/tear-down service is often provided by a rental company.

I found chair covers for about $1 a piece (I think at linentablecloth.com). Renting chair covers in our area was outrageous. The cheapest I found were like $4 or $5 each. And we still had to set them up ourselves. It was way worth it to us to purchase them. They actually are still in a box in our garage because I wanted to "sell them later". 2 of our friends have used them since our wedding. I'll probably eventually just donate them.

We are buying. 99 cents a piece. I could rent them but they are 3-4.50 each. That is silly. Even if I dont end up reselling them, I paid significantly less than renting them.

Rent them if you feel you must, but I'd skip it. I couldn't even tell you what my chairs looked like last week.

Hmmm I'm just worried since the color clashes so much with our decor. If it was anything other than red I don't think it would be as bad. But since our color is purple I feel like the red will look horrible. I have thought about skipping them but have not made a final decision. Thanks for all the advice!

I agree hat red would clash and I do actually care about what chairs look like. I also don't like chair cover look but think they are far better than ugly outdated cheap chairs. I would buy them, as long as you have space at your home to store them prior to the wedding. I was getting a little crazy with all the pre wedding stuff being staged at my house and I didn't need anything as large as chair covers

As I was pricing, I found that rentals were 1.75 per chair and up. I found on Ebay that I could by them in sets of 100 for 131.94. It us definitely cheaper to buy them. I need 250-300. If Im going to pay 600.00 to rent them, Im going to 0WN them. They are not as hard to sell later. In my case, I plan and hosting other events so I could see a reuse. I made 4ft tall mirror columns, chandeliers all kimfs

Kinds of stuff. I hit send by accident. It depends on your end use and what makes sense to you. I know many don't want to be stuck with chair covers. You could also rent them later locally and make your money back over time.
