renting servingware, plates etc for wedding dinner

Jina, on June 11, 2012 at 12:04 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 14

Is it just me, or does over $1000 for plates, spoons, forks, knives, bowls, feel excessive for a dinner of 75. Anyone have ideas for where we can buy or rent lower cost, nice servingware?

You'd might as well buy them, that's a pretty high price for renting...

Oh you should see my bill :-) ha!

For CA, $1000 to rent is about right. There are tons of rental companies to choose from, maybe get a few more quotes.

Hmm - our caterer upcharged $6pp for china vs. throwaway dinnerware. That included all serving dishes, flatware, and basic glass/drinkware on the table. We did have to rent extra glasses for bar, that was probably the biggest rental expense.

Is there anything else included in that price? Where are you getting your tables, chairs, linens, glassware? We rented everything all together through our caterer, which was just a lot easier and also saved us from being charged multiple pickup/delivery fees.

@Kris~ your caterer probably owned the equipment. It makes it easier and cheaper.

I'm paying $8.45 per person for all plates, glassware & flatware. Plus $7.50 per charger and $10.75 per chair.

Where are you renting from? And does the $1000 include tax & delivery?

Still in the proces of getting quotes- the $1000 came from a caterer that we're not going with....thanks for the input so far, all!

That price includes delivery, set up, and CLEANING of all the dishes.

We used nicer plastic plates from Smartyhadaparty- but we had a more casual event.

Kimberly I thought so too, but turned out they contract with a rental company for everything. They don't actually own any of it, at least I don't think so. They just work with that rental company all the time, so it's probably cheaper b/c of that, and they reserve the amount of plates/tables/linens/etc they need when the headcount is final and they deliver/set up/strike down/return everything.

I guess it depends on the catering company??...Some might be cheaper for rentals and for others you might be better off doing rentals independently?

Alot of clients I refer to Stuart Rentals in Milpitas and for a kids party I personally used Piedmont Party Rentals in Oakland. Good Luck, Bay Area prices are crazy but I totally agree with CrystalS from Cricket Catering, you need to consider every item you need and the quantites.
