Renting glassware vs Personalized reusable glasses

Clarissa, on April 14, 2019 at 5:10 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8

Has anyone does this? Does it save money? Everyone gets their own reusable glass to have their drinks in all night instead of renting wine glasses, beer glasses, cocktail glasses and such. I would still have a water glass at each seat for water, but they'd take their glass to the bar for drinks. Does this seem tacky? or weird if they wanted to change drinks? We already have something else we want to use as a party favor so this would be a second one. does that make it unnecessary?

As a guest who typically switches what I’m drinking after dinner, I don’t think this is a good idea. Also consider how many would be left behind because I don’t know too many people who would bother finding out a glass to take it home with them at the end of a party.

I would not want to keep my same glass all night and I would not want to take home a glass from someone else’s wedding.

I can't tell you how many drinks I lost at my wedding from sitting them down and walking away and forgetting all about it. People do that all the time - grab a drink then set it down to go dance and forget where they left it, or who's glass it really is. And yes, if they want to switch drinks it could be a problem. I'd just rent glassware. Honestly, it's probably cheaper to rent than to buy glasses for all of your guests then have to figure out what to do with all of the leftovers at the end of the evening.

Since I'm having a 25 guest count I'm going to buy fancy plastic silverware and cups and all that from Amazon. Yes it does save money and it does make more sense to me and definitely my budget.
But do what you feel like! If you can rent the stuff and you want what they have then do it!

I don't think it's weird. My friend did this with mason jars and clear labels on them of their names and wedding date (which came off so easily when you washed them). So I now have two nice handled-mason jar classes for daily use at home! They were our favors and place card to tell us where to sit. The bartenders should know to rinse the glasses if switching to another drink. I think it's definitely a cost savor! You'll have to order in bulk but could definitely be cheaper than renting an over abundance of one use then on to the next glass method.

I should also mention that this is an unpopular topic with weddingwire. They don't like the idea of using a glass multiple times or taking something home that has your name on it. I don't mind it and have been to 2 weddings with cups. I wouldn't even worry if you had more than one favor! I do!

I'm renting the glassware and stemware. $0.35 per person for real glassware vs acrylic glassware at the Dollar Tree for obviously $1 per person. I can't do the plastic. Easy decision. Separate wine glasses will be a the wine bar and 2 glasses per guest at their table.

I agree with many pp's that i would not want to use the same glass all night - especially if there is not a true glass washer thing behind the bar (there isn't at most bars at weddings i've attended at least). Also - this will super delay your bartenders if they have to rinse and dry every glass before the refill it.

This is kind of weird. I think its ok to do a custom cup as a favor like the plastic ones with the wedding date & a quote they sell on etsy but if you're really worried about renting glassware just use plastic. It seems safer anyway, you don't want people breaking glasses.
