Renting Bridesmaids Dresses

Desiree, on August 22, 2016 at 1:37 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

What's your experience on renting bridesmaids dresses? I've found a website called Vow to Be Chic seems legit but would like some advice on this?

    Don't do it.

One of my bridesmaids ended up having to do it for a different wedding. You cannot alter the dress or you have to buy the whole thing. Due to the fact she's larger chested she of course needed it altered and then she ended up paying a lot of money because once she altered it she was required to buy a used dress. The dress did not fit her and she did not feel comfortable in it without altering. She said she was the only one who was not adjusting their dress constantly at the wedding.

There are plenty of affordable bridesmaid dresses out there ask each of your bridesmaids their budget and find a dress within that.

I wouldn't do it. David's Bridal is decently priced. Ask your bridesmaids their budget and go from there.

Hi Desiree, welcome to WW! Make sure to upload a picture for your avatar (instead of the default icons) so that we can get to know you and tell you apart from all the other posters.

I've heard great things about Vow To Be Chic! My only hesitation would be about renting bridesmaids dresses in general. I do Rent The Runway a lot as a wedding guest, and sometimes you just have no idea if the dress is going to fit or not!

Have you read their reviews on WW?

Rent The Runway is actually another legit place. They show real customer photos and people do rent the dresses for the bridal party. I honestly think it is perfect because they will only wear the dress once anyway. They are almost always affordable and you can also rent a FREE second size. I use this site religiously for going to weddings as a guest.

I do want to add-- if your maids are different shapes and sizes, it could get messy. Like kayla said, you cannot alter the dresses but reviews by real customers say if tight or no. I want to consider it but I'm so picky about how I want them to look and the hue of color.

Our girls rented from Union Station. A variety of height and chest sizes, and they all looked great! I know 2 other people who used Union Station as well and had no issues.

With Union Station, they were each sent 2 different sizes, and then after the wedding you just put them back in the package they give you and drop it off at UPS (shipping is included).

I think renting depends on what dress you're looking to rent. I got really excited about Vow to Be Chic because they had the exact Donna Morgan dress I wanted my girls to wear. But since I wasn't sure I set up an appointment at a local salon that had a sample we could try on for free. The color was great, but the fit was atrocious and according to the saleswoman that specific dress, even with alterations, just generally fit horribly.

I've had great luck with Rent the Runway for other events, though, since they have an amazing review system. If Vow to Be Chic had that, it'd be a lot more informative.

I'd do some research on what look you're going for first, but I think it could be a great option to keep costs under control with the right dress.

If you rent bridesmaid dresses I would suggest Rent the Runway. My coworker always gets dresses from there for any occasion and when I worked at David's Bridal, a lot of brides had their bridesmaids do that as well.

I was considering vow to be chic as an option, but one of my very petite bridesmaids said she'd be nervous about the length (since I want them to be in long dresses).

We're going to go with Azazie. The prices aren't drastically more than the VTBC rentals would have been, and my BMs were more comfortable with buying something they could alter.
