Rental or pre-owned gown??

Meredith, on January 9, 2020 at 2:47 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7
I recently got engaged and this is my second wedding. I’m super excited to marry the man of my dreams but I don’t want to do what I did the first time and spend endless money on a wedding. That said, I still want to look fabulous in my dream gown!

I’m debating whether to rent a wedding gown or buy a preowned wedding gown. They both seem to have their pros and cons. Looking for some advice and also some resources!!
Thanks so much for your help!

I am also having my second wedding, and totally agree about not spending an absorbent amount of money. I ended up finding my dress at David’s bridal, and it wound up being on clearance for $200. I didn’t know you could rent a wedding gown, but I think that’s a reasonable thing to do. I also had looked at pre-owned gowns, but didn’t find what I wanted. I know you can look at Poshmark and Stillwhite, but you’ve probably already checked there. Good luck with your search!

I would go preowned, or shop the discounts at bridal stores. I was really aiming for the "$200 sample dress off the rack" but I struck out. My thoughts it if you own it, you'll have less to worry about.

I'm using a secondhand dress for my wedding. I'm altering it to remove some of the more dated elements and to make it more "mine". There is absolutely no reason to spend more than you want to just for a new dress. Get what you want!

I love the idea of rental ! My friend did that for hers and I thought it was a good idea because you could be renting some designer gown that costs loads except you'd just pay a small fee for it and then don't need to worry about storing this dress. I bought mine pretty cheap but it's such a large dress to store and after you really don't do anything with it aha so it's just sitting there

I wouldn't recommend a rental if your measurements are not conducive to an off-the-rack experience. If you're short (say, under than 5'6"), or if your chest/waist/hips are not in proportion with each other, you're gonna need alterations. Unless you have model proportions, you will most certainly want alterations done.
