Rent or buy?

MLS, on September 5, 2020 at 9:00 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 12

It will cost me less to buy table clothes than rent.

my thoughts though.

1. What do I do with 24 tablecloths after the fact?

2. If they get damaged and I own them, it doesn't matter but if I rent them I get charged for damage

What do you mean by damaged? Table cloths get spilled on and they won’t charge you, they’ll just launder them after. Also having to steam or iron tablecloths you purchase yourself is something to consider. We rented to make things easier.

I am in the same spot. I’m going to buy mine. You can always resell them after the wedding on Facebook Marketplace or another online site where used event items are sold. Honestly, I’ve purchased so many things for my wedding, I’ve actually thought about starting a small event decor rental business for brides and planners in my area after my wedding.

Kelly, some of the rental companies I was looking at were very specific about damage. And some of the reviews made it seem as though they were strict on it. And it is more expensive that way, so I don't want an extra charge.

Steaming and Ironing them, that is a good point. I didn't think about that, that's something to think about.

Sharonda, I was thinking about reselling. I have a bunch of stuff I bought as well that I was just going to resell on FB. Or some stuff I had made on Etsy.

I don’t think you’d have a hard time reselling. I bought some of my decor off of FB from a bride who had gotten married a couple of months before I bought the items from her. Brides are always trying to sell things they no longer need and other brides are looking for good deals!

We rented ours and they looked like they needed to be steamed when we first put them on the tables, but I didn't do it and all of the creases fell out by the time people arrived anyway, so this may not be as much of an issue as you're anticipating, although you (or someone else) will need to wash them when you're done. If I were in your position, I'd buy them, throw away any that were ruined (barring a fire, this seems unlikely), keep a few, and donate the rest.

You can resell them or save them. Do you ever host any parties or anything? You probably won’t need all 24 though lol

Host parties and use them again. Eat the cost and donate to a thrift store/church or try to sell them on Facebook Marketplace or Letgo/Offerup.

Sometimes the hassle of steaming them beforehand, laundering afterwards and the process of listing/selling/delivery is too much stress and time so renting may be better in the end. Time + sanity= money.

Even though it's cheaper, I will say if you can afford it it's so much easier to rent. They have them professionally pressed, placed on chairs and tables..tie the ties and they remove them. The time it would take to do this on your own is substantial. I helped with 2 weddings and it took us hours to iron /steam out the covers.

I was thinking the same thing about buying but then I thought do I want to worry about ironing or steaming them before the wedding. So torn.
