Rent a heater?

CelticChick831, on October 12, 2009 at 4:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

It is going to be about 58-60 the saturday of my wedding as predicted so far. I am having an outdoor ceremony and reception in an old barn that due to fire code can not have open flame or heaters in it and any heat source has to be at least 50 feet away. Should I set up a tent in and place the heater at the far end so it is 50 feet away but will heat the entire tent so that older guests will be comfortable and other guests will have a place to warm up if needed or do you think everyone will be fine?

Sounds like a good plan hon, just make sure the tent is big enough for a heater so it is not near the sides.

As a native Floridian, I consider 58-60 to be winter weather! I say rent the heaters and if it gets too warm in there b/c so many people moving around and such then just turn them off. You may be out a couple hundred bucks (no idea how much heaters cost) but it will be worth it for the comfort of your guests!

I think that if you don't get the heater you'll wish you did, and if you get it you probably won't need it. LOL That's just the way it works, right? All kidding aside, I think you should get one. Those temps are just low enough where people will probably be beyond 'a little chilly' and closer to 'rather cold' and if you get it, you'll know you have it and won't be worrying yourself with it all day.

You may not even need a tent. A lot of bars up here have decks that people go out on all through the fall and winter and they have standing heaters that heat the area up enough to make it confortable, if you have one outside as close as allowed it can throw pretty good heat and may be enough...

I would LOVE it if we had that kind of weather. I keep our apartment at 65 year round (the electric bill is included in the rent otherwise we couldn't afford too). My hubby who is a Latino hates the cold (though he has gotten used to it LOL). If you think your guests will be cold then rent one like Jess said it is better to be safe than sorry. Though don't put yourself into more debt, do it only if you can afford it.

If 60 is the high, then during the evening it will drop lower than that. How late will the wedding go? Patio heaters such as this http://events.diamondrental.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ID=191&nType=1&catID=84 only warm up the space within a few feet around them, they claim 10 feet, but my experience is it's closer to 5. However, you can use them without a tent.

A more substantial heater such as this http://events.diamondrental.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ID=189&nType=1&catID=84 will actually warm up a tent with sidewalls. If the party is going past sunset (that's around 6:30 this time of year) I would recommend the tent, sidewalls, and tent heater.

I am getting married outside on the 7th of Nov. too and reception in a barn and I am going thru same thing

but I will not do the tent

    Options are

    1-propane patio heaters

2-Propane forced hot air heaters there is no open flame that i am aware of should be able to use in barn

3- there are electric heaters that an electrician can hardwire they are like 1x3 and rentable for 85.

Let me know how you make out

    Good luck

You all live in cold states..... today was the coldest it ever gets in CA. 75. and yes to this cold to a warm blooded native.. . CC I would say get the heaters you never know that you might need to just warm up a bit. Better to be prepaird then not when you have elders coming.

Yes, because women will be wearing dresses most likely....good plan if you can afford and it is not too troublesome at this point...........otherwise, place the older people away from a draft and inner in the room where body heat and more people can help each other keep warm..........also post a message on your site about the predicted temperature and a reminder to bring a cover up or overcoat?
