Removing train cost?

Sarah, on January 13, 2019 at 9:07 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4
I’m having a beach wedding and the dress I bought has a long very heavy train. The bottom of my dress is plain with no embellishments. I am wanting it removed to be lighter and not so long in the sand. Has anyone done this to their dress and if so, how much did it cost? I have absolutely no idea about alteration prices.

I’d suggest taking your dress to a seamstress to get an accurate price.

I assume it would be the same cost as it you were to get it hemmed because they would cut off the train and then hem it.

I had my train removed. I had some other alterations done as well so I can't really give you an accurate price for that alone, but I can tell you it was on the pricier side. I had my dress lined, hemmed, straps shortened, lace sleeves taken in and the train removed and it was $230 total. I know the lining was $60 but I'm not sure about the other alterations, although I'd guess those were sub $50.

I should add that my dress is two pieces, one of them is entirely a floral lace. So that may impact the price, as well as the type of area you live in. You won't really know until you take it in.
