removing tables mid-reception

pittielvr, on September 12, 2013 at 3:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Our venue is "L" shaped and is on the smaller size, we are going to have to take down tables after dinner to make room for a dance floor. We mentioned this to the Dj and he said its actually a fairly common thing. Do any of you have to or had to do this? Who removed the tables? Did you just place those guests chairs at other locations/tables? If people are dancing those other chairs may not be needed, also our venue has an amazing deck where I expect people to gravitate towards.

We will be removing tables at ours. Our venue handles the take down. The chairs will stay in the room and we'll also bring in a few cocktail tables so people can put their drinks somewhere.

I wish that was an option- we just rent the venue, we are responsible for the put up and take down.

Do you have any waitstaff? Maybe you could pay extra for them to do it. Otherwise, I'd ask your groomsmen.

Some of our tables will be taken down to make room for the dance floor. Tables will become tables of 10, instead of tables of 8.

I've never seen this, but I'd be careful to leave plenty of seating for those that like to hang out and sip their drinks instead of dancing. Can you rent some lounge furniture to replace the tables? I wouldn't want to encourage guests to go out to the deck because an empty dance floor/ party room is a sad one to me.

ETA: I agree with Annie, it could feel really weird for displaced guests. Ideally, you would remove all of the tables while the guests are busy doing something else, then replace them with enough couches and lounge seating for everyone.

We saved a ton of money on our venue but in exchange we have to break down the lawn table and chairs as soon as possible for land accordance so FH says he will just have the GM and security guys start breaking down, weʻre poolside with a large space so Iʻm sure people wonʻt mind cuz itʻs not like we are squishing them into a tiny space.

We will be leaving benches out and love seats for those to just "hang" and relax. We just have to have furniture off the lawn unfortunately by a certain time.

thanks @Fluffy for that last part of advice! I really like the idea of "replacing" elsewhere

Thanks for the tips. The people who would lose the seats would most likely be parents, siblings, and the bridal party, so people who will know most of the guests. And the seats wouldnt be lost per say, just moved to another table.

We are using long table with 4 on each side, and maybe put the extra chairs on the ends.

We are a venue, and I personally never heard of such. What happens to the guests that were sitting at those tables? Where do they go to sit?

We're not doing a seating chart so it's not really like they're formally seated anywhere... like Fluffy said, love seats and benches will be placed elsewhere

Holly, the seats would be moved to another table. Our dj told us that he once did a wedding where they had to take down all the tables.
