Removing straps and adding illusion neckline, is this possible?

Michelle, on May 6, 2019 at 8:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

I like my dress but I would like to make a few changes like adding a little more detail to the dress and either adding illusions sleeves or replacing the straps to an adding an illusion neckline, would any if this be possible?

I’m sure it is, but will be costly...you would have to ask a seamstress. sounds like this isn’t really the dress you like/wabt

I do like the dress, I love the detail around the waist and the back of th dress, I'm just not sure about the straps.

They may be able to do it, but it will probably be expensive. I would speak to your seamstress about it. I am having the straps on my dress altered but only from spaghetti straps to slightly wider ones and just doing that is expensive due to intricate beading.

It is totally going to depend on the internal structure of the dress. It will likely be expensive. I would keep looking.

I already bought the dress, I'm 4'9 so a lot of dresses looked weird on me, this one actually looked decent on me and didn't make me feel like I was drowning in the dress and mermaid dresses look horrible on me.

Hi there, fashion designer here! I would only advise removing the straps if there is actually a seam between the straps and the main body of the dress, otherwise the seamstress will have to hack into the dress and the result may not be symmetrical, no matter how good she is. But in general, I would not advise adding illusion netting to the neckline because the seamstress will have to open the entire lining. Adding sleeves will be easier but still expensive because she will have to make a new pattern for your arm.

It also looks like the armhole is digging into you and, like me, you certainly don’t need the cups. Once the cups are gone you the armhole will become a better shape for you. Since your seamstress will have to open the dress up anyway to do this, you can talk to her about what is actually possible in terms of the additions you want, but I think the sleeve is the best bet. (And you will feel better about the neckline once those cups are gone!)
