Removing layers from 'ruffle' style dress

Rachael, on April 24, 2023 at 6:51 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 6

Hi there! I bought this dress last week and am now having doubts about whether or not I made the right decision!! I loved it at the time, but am now worried it will be too heavy for our beach wedding in Mauritius. The shop where I bought it suggested that I could remove the train as well as some of the layers to make it less poofy, but wanted to know if anyone has successfully done this with a similar style dress, and if it worked out ok!

Thoughts/advice welcome!

I didn’t remove a train, but I did remove tulle layers to make a dress less puffy. And it worked out perfectly!

That's really reassuring, thank you! Do you have a photo of it after the layers were removed at all?

I altered a similar dress for a bride. but we didn't remove the RUFFLES - I went under the gown and removed 4 layers of the poofy tulle. She was thrilled (and a lot slimmer LOL) Sorry, I don't have a picture. Smiley atonished

FOUND IT!! I looked through my "brides" folder and here she is. That longish piece on the left side is her train. (That got bustled for the reception)

Based on the style of the dress, I think you want a ballroom wedding. But, if you love the dress as-is, just own it. You don't have to change it to fit a beach. A tailor can easily cut the train and apply the horse hair trim. The removable layers would be on the inside of the dress.
