Removing boning from dress ??

Brenna, on January 5, 2020 at 12:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
Hi there! This is my dress!! And I LOVE it. The only thing I am still worrying about is the top of the dress - bust/chest area. I’m only about a C cup and feel that the dress makes me look top heavy. I am considering removing the boning. Anyone else been in a similar situation and lived to tell the tale? But I won’t see the dress again until it’s time to get married so basically a shot in the dark!! Help!

Do you think the boning is the problem / causing my chest to stick out? Removing boning from dress ?? 1

I honestly think that you look perfectly proportional and don’t see the problem you’re talking about. I would worry that removing the boning would compromise the structure of your beautiful dress.

I agree with the pp, I think it looks perfect as is. I would not remove the boning. That could remove the support your boobs need. Don’t stress anymore.

I agree that removing boning and/or any other structure in the bodice of your dress might have a significant impact on how it looks/fits. Generally, the boning and structure helps keep your chest in place and often adds support through the midriff. Without the boning, I think there is a chance your dress will wrinkle/crease below your chest and potentially lose the nice smooth line you have now on your ribcage. I saw your earlier post about the modifications you've made to the dress. While I like the flutter sleeves you've added, those do visually draw the eye outward across your chest; if anything, I think they make your chest look a bit wider than it truly is. However, overall, I think your dress looks like it fits you well and both compliments and balances your figure. The only way I'd think it would make sense to change the structure of the chest area is if the dress is truly too large and doesn't fit your breasts. We considered something similar with daughter's highly structured dress because the built in cups/structure were significantly bigger than daughter's chest. But after discussing it with the alterations person, daughter decided it wasn't worth undertaking MAJOR alterations -- so they sewed in padded cups to take up the extra space so daughter felt secure within the bodice. I agree with others that for your own peace of mind, I'd just try to recognize what strangers are telling you -- that you look beautiful in your dress exactly as it is! Good luck! Smiley heart

You honestly look perfect! You have a beautiful feminine figure many women would kill for. Embrace your beauty.

I would highly advise against removing the boning. That’s holding everything in. You’ll lose support in the dress in the tummy and boob area (nobody wants that).

I would definitely not remove the boning. I do not think it would result in your desired outcome and might end up with the bodice looking frumpy.

I really think it looks perfectly fine as it is. I think if you are noticing big changes, it is likely because of the sleeves and the more modest neckline. Both of those changes are going to result in different areas being accentuated/appearing larger just because the eye is drawn to notice things differently.

Everything pp have said. You look great and I don't see the problem you do. I'd leave the boning to support the dress. 🥰

I can see how you feel it makes you look top heavy. Is it possible to trim down the inside cups to be a little lower? That could help with the top heavy look.

I would not remove any dress structure as this will completely change the look of the dress.
