Removing Ball Gown Layers

Megan, on December 27, 2017 at 4:25 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17
Call me crazy, but I'm debating on removing more layers from my wedding dress. My mom luckily is excellent at sewing and I probably should have had her do the alterations from the start. Anyways I feel like my ball gown is too much for an adventure elopement. We already removed one layer from it and it looks better...but still isn't as simple as I would like. Has anyone removed layers and how did the final result end up? I also feel like the train is a bit much but my seamstress was very adamant about leaving it... (I wish the app didn't crop the picture.)

It's such a beautiful dress. I don't have any input about your specific question, sorry.

We are eloping in the snow (weather permitting) at Hurricane Ridge in Washington. If the road closes due to weather it will probably be at a nearby lake.

You could try a bustle or wrist loop for when you’re walking around but the gown will look amazing in those locations with the full skirt. I wouldn’t remove anymore layers

I think my problem is I always envisioned myself in an A-Line less poofy dress. I ordered this dress because I fell in love with the back (not pictured).

That looks like a EOA dress. I have one and I would not touch my layers. The poofy is part of what makes it so stunning.

But you are going to, take it to someone.

That is a beautiful dress, I wouldn't touch it. Spend some time styling it a little and I bet you will fall in love with it all over again.

That is an absolutely gorgeous dress!!! Did you check to see if the place where you ordered the dress from does alterations? The nice thing about having the place where you bought do alterations, is that they know the dress, and if they damage the dress they would be on the hook to replace it depending on the shop. When I ordered my dress, I told them I did not want all the puffiness in my dress they told me it wouldn't be that hard to remove the layers. I"m not sure how much that would alter the look of the dress though.

I haven't removed layers yet but my dress looks pretty similar to yours and I talked with the seamstress in the shop about removing 1-2 and she said absolutely. I will be shortening my train as well. I guess I don't have the designer issue because my dress has no designer tags anywhere in/on it. I got it on consignment and it's completely tagless. My mom thinks it was taken in quite a bit from the original size so the tag would have been cut out at that time.
