Remove tulle from ballgown dress?

Kristina, on May 16, 2020 at 1:36 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4
Hey all!
I got my dress from David’s bridal and im having somewhat of a little dress regret only because I feel it is so heavy and it’ll get so hot. I really like how it looks overall but I can’t stand the poof I was of it. My question is have any of you guys removed most of the tulle from your dress and how did it turn out? Is that even possible or a good idea? Lmk what you guys think! :-) I’ll attach photos of my dress. Also, what kind of alterations do seamstresses typically do? I have no clue on what I should ask for or how the whole process works. Lol thank you!!

I think DB can definitely shorten it, and they'll probably help with taking out some of the tulle if that's what you want! They hemmed mine, adjusted the zipper, added the bustle, and adjusted the straps on my dress because the off the shoulder straps were too stiff for my broad shoulders. They also added a belt to mine! They can do a lot of alterations - even adjusting the back if you want a corset. There are a ton of options. Just make sure you figure out about how much you want to spend - my hemming was 150 by itself.

Your dress is beautiful!!! Yes! You can definitely remove some of the tulle. You’re right - it’s heavy & you’ll get hot. A good seamstress can do pretty much anything! My dress literally had to be remade. The seams didn’t line up right, it needed to be taken in on the sides & on the straps. They cut out a bunch of the tulle & remade my pockets! I got my dress for less than $800 & the alterations were about $500 but it was well worth it. My dress fits beautifully and is exactly what I wanted. And know that you can take your dress someplace else to be altered. That’s what I did! Best wishes to you!

Hi Kristina! They can always remove layers or tulle for you, but they will definitely warn you that it can affect the shape and silhouette of the dress!
