Remove crinoline (tulle underskirt) or not. Opinions wanted!

Laura, on January 22, 2020 at 4:40 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

I had dress regret and chose a new dress. I absolutely love it. It has lace that dips down on both sides, it's lightweight, the lace is swoon worthy - my only thought is that I want to remove the crinoline. But, I think the lace dipping might be less noticeable if I do. I was wondering if I removed the crinoline and I changed my mind, if I could then just put a slip under the dress? Here's my dress. I'm sorry to be blowing up the boards with it - but a dress change does change a lot of other things. It's a domino effect... So, what do you think??

The dress feels so french to me, I really think the gracefulness without the tulle would be divine ... unless I lose the lace effect....

I think it would still be beautiful without the crinoline

If I changed my mind after removing it, do you think I could put a slip under it and get the poof back? lol!

Yeah definitely! You can get tulle underskirts at pretty much any bridal shop

I would consult a seamstress before removing it and get their opinion about what that would do to the dress.

She said it could be done if I wanted it to be and that it was very easy to do. But, the choice is mine. Gulp!

I'm taking a layer of the poof material out of mine ( I don't think it's tulle, it's stiff at the bottom and super heavy) and my seamstress agreed it was a good idea. For me, I have lace applique detail at the bottom that I'm concerned about losing too much of because once that layer is out it will need to be hemmed even more.

I don't think you'll lose the lace detail by removing some poof but you can always add the underskirt back if you end up missing it. Not sure how many layers you have but you could start by removing one or two and go from there. Your dress is lovely by the way!

Based on the photos, I don't think your dress is overly "poofy." Personally, I'd probably leave the crinoline; it doesn't seem excessive to me. But, it's totally your choice. It's still a beautiful dress!

It's not overly poofy - I think I just set it relaxed and flowy - but I love it so much I'm worried about a change that I don't love... lol!

I think I have 2 poof layers... lol! I can see about doing just 1 ... and see if that works... I hadn't thought about that!

Personally I would leave it as it is but it’s totally up to you! If you take it out and don’t like it then you can always get a slip! Gorgeous dress by the way 😊

Did your stylist show you the “crinoline test” to see if you like it without? Stand with legs apart, tuck in crinoline, close legs. Not exact but will show you if you like without so much poofy layers.

Do keep in mind the fuller your skirt, the smaller your waist looks!

I didn't know about the crinoline test! My alterations are 3 mo. away. Maybe that's why? But I love that idea! How does my waist look here? lol! And you are right, the fuller skirt does minimize my waist. I wondered how that was lost so much in my straighter dress (this is dress 2). Smiley smile

Can any of you suggest pearls or rhinestones/diamonds with this dress? And my E-ring is rose gold - would you do that or would you switch to white gold for anything but the E-ring?

I think your waist looks perfect as the dress is! It’s not a giant A-line or ballgown. Maybe only see how it would look if you remove one layer? But I really don’t think it looks too full right now.

A-line is the most universally figure-flattering silhouette. The fitted dress you had also looked fantastic on you, just a different look. 😁
