Reliving things that went wrong

Natalie, on June 5, 2017 at 5:57 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 41

I really did enjoy my wedding and adore my new husband but I just can't help going back over things that didn't go as planned on my wedding day. My dress nearly caught on fire coming down the aisle, one of husband's cousins saved it from the candles, we forgot our cake topper, forgot my veil, the dance floor was sparse (photobooth got a lot of people off the dance floor) for most of the time, the dj made us do the cake feeding thing (so awkward) and lastly and most horribly, as I went to speak to the dj about something and he was setting up his equipment, he smashed his laptop completely cracking the screen making it unusable, he had to drive home to get his replacement, we had to delay speeches meaning there was a far too long gap between entree and main when speeches would've happened and I could see our guests getting fidgety. I felt so awful for the dj and partly responsible.

Anyway I just can't help but dwell on the negatives right now. I wish I could go back and fix them.

I'm sorry all this happened to you. At the end of the day, you married your best friend! Do you have any pictures of how beautiful you looked?

One of the pics shows a veil! People might not have even noticed that there was no cake topper.

and obviously not yet, but maybe in the future, at least you have a funny story to tell. Accidents happen, and I'm sure your guests understood.

I know the feeling. I'll probably do the same thing when ours is over.

@Christy, @Rochelle - if you can afford a good DOC, hire one. If there were any issues, I didn't know about them.

I'll share in the things that went wrong, but I don't see them as being BIG deals. The most important part of our day is that DH and I are married and that is all that really matters. Things were going to go wrong either way, so I'm okay with the things that did, because hey it could be worse.

What went wrong: my pro photos were just ehh. Didn't get a lot of decor, bridal and family shots. Our photographer was suppose to be a professional, but I still don't think he was. I do love our video though, so yay to that! My personalized hanger was damaged while traveling, but it didn't matter cause I didn't get a photo of my dress hanging anyways. It rained, so we got wet during our first look. My sister was holding my umbrella so her hair got messed up. Luckily for me she was a trooper and whipped up some type of braid in her hair to make up for the flat curls. We skipped our reception entrance and song and my dress was stepped on and ripped during the comga line my brother started. I'm sure there are more, but like I said, not a big deal now that everything is over.

OP no one has a perfect wedding. Just try to focus on the positives. I'm sure a lot went right, but you are just focusing on the negative right now. The most important being that you are married to your DH.

I'm sorry your day was less than perfect. Just hold on to the things that went right, and the bad will eventually feel less important. I echo Gymrat ...we had a DOC and if anything went wrong it was completely transparent to us

Perfection is perception, not reality. You married a great guy, you had fun, you looked beautiful. What is there to think about. While you're letting things that you can't change take up room in your head, your missing out on more happy moments dwelling on negative thoughts. Stop! Smell the roses girl.

My husband got pushed in the pool halfway through the reception, his sober/pregnant cousin had to drive to our house (luckily five minutes away) to get him dry clothes...

I would have murdered the DJ if he had attempted to force us to do a cake feeding. That would have been a wedding.

Awe, you look gorgeous in your dress! FH & I are probably opting out of a photo booth for that reason. We were in my cousin's wedding a few years ago and everyone was too busy with the photo booth, that no one was really dancing.

@SuYa, are the photos on your WW profile the pro photos?!

I have to say, I'm super curious who your photography vendor was!

So many things went wrong at my wedding I had to block the day out in my mind. I focused on being married and starting our new life together. It honestly took me over 2 months to even look at my pictures. When I did though, I could only focus on the positive things that happened that day. My advice is stop reliving the wrong and focus all of the wonderful things about your wedding!

Besides the "no audio" during the first segment of the slideshow (I had my laptop on MUTE and they did not do soundcheck). Nothing else stood out as issues at my wedding.

My DJ/MC/Coordinator basically ran the evening and owned it. Best money ever spent.

I agree with wedding coordinators. They made everything stress free and smooth and were so detailed and organized. I wouldn't have had the same outcome without them. Best money spent.
