Religious readings

Samantha, on July 2, 2019 at 2:00 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 13

Hey all!

My fiance I are having a traditional church ceremony, and are wanting a couple people that we are close to, to do readings in the ceremony.. would our pastor help us decide what will be read? And how many readings are typically done? We're wanting 2-3 people.. but do not want a drawn out ceremony..

Are you wanting readings but aren't sure of what you want to be read, or are you asking about how many readings?

Both! We want those people involved in some way, and decided readings during the ceremony would be the best way. We just don't know how many are acceptable or how many usually are done.. and if we choose the readings, or if the pastor does.

For the traditional ceremonies I've been to there have been 2 readings. From what I understand the bride picked out about 4-5 readings and then met with their pastor and the pastor then ultimately picked which of those readings would fit best into the ceremony.

    Hope this helps!

I'd say no more than 3. After that it turns into a parade.

We had three people we specifically wanted to include in this way.. but if that's too much I want an honest opinion saying no, just stick to two. We don't want a crazy long ceremony.. half an hour is ideal.

We are having traditional Catholic wedding- Our priest gave us a book of wedding readings we could choose from. So we chose two that we loved. One will be said in Spanish and the other in English.

We're Episcopalian, and using the traditional wedding liturgy, which gives a few options for readings Smiley smile He and I just sat down and settled on the two that we liked the most, and we will be having one person from each side of the family doing the readings. We are doing pre-marital counseling with our pastor as well, and he's going to discuss the ceremony with us from start to finish after the main coursework is done, so he can provide direction. Best of luck!

For a Catholic ceremony they'll give you a book of readings to chose from...one from the Old Testament, one from The New testament and one for the Gospel but usually the priest reads the Gospel. Your priest will work with you on all the aspects of the ceremony

What about doing 2 readings and having the 3rd person say a prayer, normally your pastor would do the prayer and they still can but you could always do 2 or they could do a prayer at the reception instead? Just an option.

Depends on the church and pastor. We are having readings, we are picking them out we will have one passage with 3-4 verses and my FH's sister in-law and his nephew's (10&11) will read them.

Honestly I'm not sure that there is an average. My sister had one, we had none apart from what our officiant was saying. I would say no more than maybe two, because if you have too many people will get bored.
