Relief of Postponing?

mrswinteriscoming, on July 20, 2020 at 9:42 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5

We are currently looking to postpone our wedding by one year to December 2021 due to new COVID-19 restrictions imposed by our government as a result of a recent spike in cases.

We are hoping that our same date is available (our venue said someone else has it on hold for the time being) so crossing our fingers, but otherwise I kinda feel somewhat relieved about postponing our wedding.

Obviously it's not what we had planned, but if we postpone we have time to save more money, our friends from interstate and overseas will (most likely be able to attend), we hopefully will be able to go on our honeymoon etc. (and I will have more time to lose the weight I gained during COVID lockdown hahaha).

Has anyone else felt the same about postponing their wedding?

Yeah it was a whirlwind but a bit of a relief. I love that we have more time to save & do things better!

It was such an emotional roller coaster up until my fiance and I decided to postpone. Once we made the decision to postpone, I felt relief. It's not fun to have to wait until 2022, but it gives us more time for everything with COVID to improve, and we're more likely to have our wedding the way that we originally planned it. More time to save up, too. If you do postpone, I suggest planning something fun for your original date, so you can still celebrate that day too!

I feel the same way! Sure, this obviously wasn’t the initial plan but I’m actually quite happy with the postponement. Ultimately, I think our destination wedding plans will be better executed next year than this one. I loved our “perfect” 10/10/20 date and we’ll still acknowledge it with a weekend getaway. However, we really only selected that date because it was fun. But now we have a story behind our new 10/30/21 date, which gives it a special meaning. Since the date is near Halloween, we’re looking forward to celebrating each year by hosting themed costume parties for our anniversaries😄. So, amidst this postponement, we’ve found the positives and come up with a fun tradition. Another bright side is that we really have nothing to plan because it’s done. So, we might add a few extras here and there. But ultimately the plans are set and now we just wait!

We felt relief too when we postponed our July wedding. Heartbroken, but ultimately relieved. Our wedding would be this weekend and I think we made the right choice with the current state of the virus. I'm hoping that we get a little clarity on how to move forward over the next few months. And you are right - you know have time to hopefully get all your guests to your new date, go on a honeymoon, and save more money. Best of luck to you!

Currently, my wedding is scheduled for June 2021 in Jamaica. I have until December of 2020 to reschedule without any issues since we are having our wedding and honeymoon at an all inclusive resort. I'm still holding on to hope that the world will magically fix itself, but I've come to terms with the idea that chances are very high that I will need to postpone until 2022. Although, I haven't officially gone through with it yet there is some relief in FINALLY accepting and putting your mind at ease about the decision.
