Relationship / Marriage Power Dynamics

The Bride, on July 29, 2019 at 2:48 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 20
Have you ever wondered who is more dominant in your relationship/marriage?

If so, answer these questions and it MIGHT help you decide:
1. Who initiates sex more often?
2. Whose in charge of the finances?
3. Who makes the most compromises?
4. Who asks for help more frequently?
5. Who is more assertive?

So...who is more dominant in your relationship/marriage? Do you prefer to be more dominant or submissive in your relationship/marriage? Why? What tactics do you and your partner use to assert yourselves in your relationship/marriage?

    Out of the 5 options:

    Me: 2

    Him: 2

Both of us pretty equally: 1

Based on the questions we're dead even. However, I'm really only assertive when it's something I really care about. He would be the same way if I wouldn't force him into leading the decision making :-P ... so, him, I guess.

It's me. I'm a rather assertive person, it's one of his favorite qualities about me. He's just a submissive person in general and finds comfort in having someone who can make choices quickly.

Are you more dominant because you feel like you have to be in your relationship or because that is naturally who you are?

That's absolutely who I am. I don't need to be assertive for myself, of anything I need to relax 😆 But I do find when making choices for the two of us we need to sit down and go through the pros and cons and steps to make something happen for fiance. Otherwise he'll just clam up and tell me to pick. I can tell he's overwhelmed because he makes a face.

Usually it's just talking about it saying something like, "I'd prefer to do XYZ" or "we need to get XYZ done" or "mind if we do XYZ this way." You get the point...

Perhaps you are the most dominant.

I think it's both. He's rather honest and I'm rather straightforward. I'd like to say it's a little more me though.

I think he is more dominant in the relationship but I make all of the "minor" decision haha. For example, he makes more and helps to pay most of the bills, but I will typically be the one to choose where we go out to eat because he doesn't have a huge opinion on those things.

😃 I think my husband and I might be equally as dominant, I rated us both a 2.5 based on the 5 questions.

    I would say I am.

    In some ways.

I'm older, and also an only child, so there's a certain point at which I just, um, kind of expect to get my way? (...oops.)

I'm in charge of finances - partly because I've got more experience, partly because I currently make more money, partly because I lived in this apartment before he did so everything's in my name...

But I also ask for help more.

He's just as stubborn as I am, but he's also far more used to living with and helping family, so there's a certain point where I just lead.

    Oh, lots.
From just decision making to stubbornness to experience.
