Relationship / Marriage Advice From Alexa?

The Bride, on July 31, 2019 at 8:33 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12

According to The Real Daytime, Alexa (and similar devices) will soon be able to help couples resolve their arguments by listening in and analyzing the conversation. Furthermore, Alexa (and similar devices) will also be able to predict with 75% accuracy whether a relationship or marriage will be able to survive.

Here's the video that gave me the inspiration for this discussion post: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CA6BzPGCCg8

What are your thoughts? Would you trust Alexa (and similar devices) to be your relationship/marriage counselor? Why or why not?

Yikes! Listening in and RECORDING, and you give the company access to that info “so they can better serve your needs!” I don’t trust even my phone, let alone Alexa or similar devices that are listening, because how else would they know when you say “Siri/Alexa/etc.” It’s practically impossible to keep anything private these days between all of the devices watching and listening to us everywhere.
As far as its ability to help as a marriage counselor and predict whether a marriage will last- I don’t believe it. Every person is different, every relationship is different, and marriage counseling isn’t a one size fits all kind of thing.

Weird aha. I don't think that'll work out well anyway, I have an echo dot and Alexa is too literal aha like I asked her what is the difference between tonic water and club soda and she just went on and on about the history of club soda. So in other words, I agree with PP in that Alexa may just give really generic advice

It might be amusing but I couldn’t take it seriously. Siri is so dumb she heard my FH talking about a song and she rambled on for a good few minutes about local restaurants in our area, a whole list of them. We were like “Uuuuh I wasn’t asking you anything!”

Dang, this is crazy. Definitely wouldn't trust Alexa because she's a machine that only takes things at face value. She can't understand how complicated a relationship can be!

Makes sense. It was only a matter of time for AI to make it's way into other job areas. So long human therapists, hello Siri.

Alexa can't even understand my accent I can't even get her to do what I want now. 🙄
I'd just throw the whole the system out if it wanted to meddle in my marriage.

Most of our electronic devices have the ability to listen to our conversations so I agree it's nearly impossible to have privacy.
