Rehearsal without Officiant?

Marleen P, on March 5, 2017 at 8:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

Hii everyone!!!

Has anyone done their rehearsal without the officiant? I emailed mine so we can set it up and she said she's booked (completely understand). I guess my question would be how would the rehearsal go? Or should I change the date?

I'm so tired of this wedding planning! Everything is going wrong but I am still trying to remain calm and positive.

Do you have a day of coordinator? They can probably help you.

Most officiants from what I've been told don't go to rehearsals.

You could always do your rehearsal two nights before if everyone will be in town. I don't think that would be an issue. Also, you could do it without the officiant and have someone stand in to pretend. The point of the rehearsal is so that everyone knows what the plan is. I would most definitely not go without one. I rarely (like a dozen in ten years) do rehearsals. We set up the processional order and let the coordinator take care of it. Since we are first up the aisle, we can't help you after that.

Thank you everyone! I am a little relieved.

*Thank you Celia, you are always helpful!! I wish I would've known of you before I hired the officiant. *regrets*

Thank you for this post! My officiant is not able to come to mine as well. This has definitely reassured me

My officiant will be at mine. But it will probably be fine if yours isn't.

Since so many of my weddings are destination weddings, I don't usually have a chance to rehearse or even meet face-to-face my couples before they walk down the aisle. So, the venue coordinator or a take-charge friend usually gets the wedding party lined up to process up the aisle. Once the couple is standing in front of me, all they have to do is listen as I direct them (turn and face each other, join your right hands, repeat after me, pour the unity sand, etc.).

Our officiant and DJ highly recommend that we have a rehearsal the night before so we can time out songs for the bridal party processional and bride processional and cut the songs where needed. Also so we can decide who will be coming in the doors on the same level as the ceremony or who will be entering from above and walk down the staircase

My officiant charges extra to come to the rehearsal. So we'll just walk through with the coordinator at our venue

Our DOC will be at the rehearsal and our officiant provided a draft of the ceremony

With so many of our venues doing Thursday nights, it's hard to even schedule rehearsals. As long as your DOC knows the order and your dj/band know their cues? You'll be just fine!

Sept 3........sept 3........LOL....nope. booked. (though we've toyed with the idea of doing a nation wide tour in an Airstream and marrying people all along the way!)

Jessica, here's what you do. You ask for a copy of the script. Preferable a month ahead of time (this is what I strive for, though I don't alway make it, lol) You look at it. You schedule a skype or phone call with him and add readings or elements that would spark it up for you.

Some people are far better in person than on paper, and visa versa. Maybe you can add guest readers that would add some other voices (always good!)

Can you meet him prior and run through it with just you and your FH? My officiant said we can do a rough run through so we know what to expect but with just me and my FH.
