Rehearsal vows???

Nicole, on May 16, 2017 at 12:44 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

We are writing our own vows. During the rehearsal, will we just skip over that part? I want the vows I write to be a surprise for the wedding! I'm just not sure how the rehearsal is supposed to go. Thanks!

The 2 rehearsals I went to, both couples read their vows. I plan to skip over them as well though, because I included a hilarious joke and don't want to ruin the surprise! I don't think it's a big deal if you don't read them.

Yeah, just skip that part if you want them to be a surprise.

My pastor says he skips the vows during the rehearsal so that the first time they're read out loud is during the actual ceremony. You should be fine skipping that part during the rehearsal too.

Talk to your officiant to be sure everyone's on the same page, but our officiant glossed through everything during our rehearsal and I've always seen them skipped during other rehearsals I've participated in as a BM.

We are skipping vows. Rehearsal will most be to decide who's walking when.

I never go over the vows when I rehearse weddings with the couples I marry.

You are correct. Don't recite your actual vows during the rehearsal. Do, however, go over the mechanics of it. This is especially important for the ladies who usually don't have pockets to store their index cards or vow booklets. I find it best for me to hold the bride's copy of her recital vows. I hand them to her when it's her turn and she hands them back when she's done (she gets the original after the ceremony). The MOH will already have her hands full with two bouquets and will be similarly pocketless. I also recommend you each separately share your vows with your officiant so they are familiar with them. Best wishes!

The rehearsal is just a walk through so you know where to go and when. No vows.

I have never seen vows read out at a rehearsal, the officiant should let you know when in the ceremony order the vows will come but you should be able to skip over actually reciting them.
