Rehearsal lunch ideas?

Ashley, on January 29, 2013 at 7:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

We found a place do to our rehearsal for free for 3 hours, between noon and 3pm so I figured we would just have a rehearsal lunch instead of dinner.

FMIL stated that she had been prepared to spend at least $500 on the dinner, and as nice as it would be for them to offer to pay it M feels like it's something that they could hold over us. I don't really feel this way, but those are his thoughts.

So I've narrowed it to maybe we could throw burgers & hot dogs on a grill and have a picnic bbq we could save money, or hit up the local Mexican place that M and I both love and somehow ask people to pay their own way... thoughts?

I figured it would just be the wedding party & our parents along with dj & doc at the rehearsal but FMIL is listing off all these people that I have no idea why on earth they would come, so the feeding people list is getting bigger than expected and I wanted to try to save M's parents money...

I don't think you should ask people to pay for the rehearsal lunch. Could you order some really good pizza, Chinese food, or even Mexican from that place you like? The place would probably throw in plates and utensils. I feel like by the time you work out enough burger/ hot dog options to feed your picky eaters and round out the meal, you may as well have had someone else do the cooking.

What ^^ pup who finally has 5 stars said.

Do the cheapest possible version, but don't ask people to pay for the rehearsal lunch. It's a tiny thank you for them taking time out of their day to do rehearsal with you.

The chinese food here sucks sadly, so maybe we'll go with Mexican. The pizza prices where I'm at are so outrageous... I feel like people are pickier about their pizza than their burger.

Ashley, don't worry about it. If they don't want to eat, they don't have to. Provide what you can, give a couple of reasonable choices (i.e., don't order one extra-super-incredibly spicy dish that only batman can eat), and be done with it.

No, no, no - to asking guests to pay for the Rehearsal Lunch. If his parents were going to pay $500 for a dinner, let them pay that for the lunch.

Not sure how they would hold that over your head, but I do not know his family, so only you really know.

Not sure where you're located at but BBQ is a cheap easy option... pulled pork sandwiches, potato salad, green beans, baked beans, corn muffins, sweet tea. I agree with Amy V. on letting FMIL pay for it.

Mrs S - I didn't know batman was into spicy food hehe

Amy V - Oh I've tried lol, he is stupidly difficult when it comes to his parents. The only fight we've gotten into over anything wedding related has been to him REFUSING any of his parents help when I want to accept it.

Aimee - That's our wedding menu, so I don't want to do it for the rehearsal too Smiley smile

What about a 6 foot sandwich from Togos or deli sandwiches. Another option that would be very easy and not too expemsive. I think Costco even has deli platters too.
