Rehearsal Dinner

Amanda, on February 24, 2020 at 11:53 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

I'm getting married out of state, in a small mountain town. There aren't many restaurant options that can feed a large crowd that isn't ridiculously expensive. We are renting a large house to stay in that weekend and plan on doing a dinner Friday night before the wedding for immediate family only (parents, siblings and their spouses, our kids). I'm looking for suggestions on what would be cost-effective to serve/cook for that night since we'll be cooking the dinner ourselves. I was thinking of doing a BBQ since the house has a nice patio with two grills. However, I don't want the food to be cheap but need to cost-effective and have great food. We're doing this early like 4-6 pm. It'll be like 25 people.

The other thing is we feel bad that everyone is flying in that day and decided to do an open house after the dinner so people could come and go to see us and say hi. Should I serve some snacks as well as serve drinks then too? Any suggestions? Thank you!

Is there a local pizza place you could order from? That way you guys could just relax with everyone instead of worrying about cooking.

We were in a small mountain town but there was a Publix that did catering. We had chicken and sides for about $10 a person.

If you want to make your own food, bbq, italian and tacos are the cheapest options. You can do a tray of ziti with meatballs, green salad and bread for relatively cheap. Mac and cheese, sausage and peppers, etc. Anything that can be made ahead of time would be best that way you can just pop in the oven or crockpot.

I think BBQ sounds like fun. Maybe you could order pre-made sides (potatoes, macoroni, etc) from a local grocery store to cut down on the amount of prep work you actually have to do? For the guests coming later, I would suggest fruit and cheese platters, and maybe if you are going to grill anyway you could prepare some finger foods like chicken skewers or wings so they don't feel left out of the BBQ fun.

I think BBQ is great, and it is what we are doing! We are having a local grocery store cater it. As long as you feed them something for coming to the rehearsal, it doesn't need to be "fancy" or expensive! Smiley smile

There is no mainstream grocery store just a small market and even their food is more expensive. However, farther out of town there may be, let me look into that. Thanks for the idea.

I was thinking Italian too. I thought about mexican (tacos) but there are so many toppings and things to prep that I ruled that out.
