Rehearsal dinner

Concetta, on August 28, 2019 at 4:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Hi,

we will be having our ceremony and reception at a wonderful venue in Long Island, however they do not allow you to have an actual rehearsal prior to your wedding... you have to do a little run through the day of lol. With this being said, do we still have a rehearsal dinner? I know that usually this is when you give the bridal party their gifts also. We plan on having breakfast catered the morning of the wedding while everyone is getting dressed but im thinking do we still have a rehearsal or do we not?

For the record, I do not have a preference to nix it or keep it I am just confused lol

Under those circumstances, a rehearsal dinner is optional. It's up to you whether to have one.

Does I️t look bad or rude if we didn’t have one?

I don't think you'll need a rehearsal dinner in that case.

No. It only looks bad if you actually have a rehearsal, and then don't feed people.

Rehearsal dinners to me are more about an extra thank you to the people that show up for you, especially when making that extra trip for the rehearsal so if there is no rehearsal you will not look bad for not having a dinner. The breakfast sounds like the perfect time to give them their gifts and is still an extra thank you for supporting us thing.

As others have said it's up to you.

If you wanted to do a rehearsal practice somewhere else, you could - and then have the rehearsal dinner. Or you could have the rehearsal dinner with no practice, or no practice, no rehearsal dinner.

It would be completely optional. If you’re not expecting people to show up to rehearse, there’s nothing wrong with skipping the dinner. Many people choose to give their wedding party their gifts the morning of the wedding, even when they do have a RD.

I'd rehearse somewhere else the night before and still have a rehearsal dinner.

My venue is available for a rehearsal, but you have to be out by 5:00, which is too early for us given people schedules and wanting to do a dinner afterwards. So our coordinator found us a place downtown near the restaurant we're having a rehearsal dinner at to run through the ceremony. Our officiant is going to send ahead a kind of script, and our coordinator will walk everyone through what to do. Even though it's not at the venue, I still want to do a rehearsal the night before to iron everything out. And then we'll have the rehearsal dinner afterwards as an extra thank you.

My venue is the same way- except only the guys do the run through on the day of while the ladies are still getting ready. I'm a very type A, overly organized person so I planned on still doing a rehearsal and dinner at anther venue just to make sure everyone knows what is going on the day of.
