Rehearsal dinner timing

Jessica, on June 8, 2015 at 9:38 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

We are hosting our own rehearsal dinner and my coordinator asked me about timing. Originally, I didn't know what he was talking about (just bring the food out!). Now I realize speeches have to be given, gifts have to be distributed. So my question is, are speeches done before or after dinner is served. Should they be done during dessert?

I have been trying to figure this out myself as well. A rehearsal dinner I attended a few years ago did both speeches and gifts after dinner and before dessert. But, I have also heard of them being done before dinner is served as well.

Um, I have never heard of having to set up an actual time line for the RD, but we're giving out gifts at the hotel where we do the actual rehearsal, that way people can put the stuff in their rooms before we leave for dinner. I imagine probably right before dinner toasts will be given? Eta spelling

I would say during dessert; just because after going through rehearsal people will more than likely be hungry and just want to sit.

We didn't even have toasts at the rehearsal. We rehearsed, we went to the dining room. While we were waiting for our food, I passed out the gifts. We ate and then left.

After dinner we did a quick thank and gave out gifts. No toasts/speeches really. We didn't do dessert.

We have a hungry group so I imagine food will be first, then FH and I will likely thank everyone for coming and pass out gifts before dessert is served.
