Rehearsal at a park...crazy or nah???

Bacon Curly Gurl, on April 15, 2016 at 7:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

I'm considering holding our wedding rehearsal at a park since we can't get have it at the venue. The park is across the street from our hotel and down the block from the venue. Ceremony and reception are in the same location and there isn't space at our rehearsal dinner restaurant to rehearse either. The park is where I want to take some BP pictures before the ceremony and have our "first look." Is it a crazy idea to have the rehearsal in a public place?

Between our BP, officiant, immediate families, and significant others, we're looking at 30 people at the rehearsal and dinner so having it in one of our hotel rooms isn't really an option either.

I actually wish I would've thought to have it at park instead of our venue.

I just thought it was a waste to have everyone come to the venue (which was far from majority of bridal party members including my parents--about 70 miles) just to rehearse there, which wasn't even on the "actual ceremony location" anyway since there was a wedding that day. The only benefit for me for going there was seeing the drapery in the room that the other party was using (and our venue let us keep up for a really cheap price), oh and taking a picture in the arch of the other ceremony....

We're doing our rehearsal dinner at a park. If our venue were to suddenly get booked, we'd also do our rehearsal there. It's more to just know logistics because our venue is pretty easy to get around.

@jewes322 where did you have dinner after the rehearsal?

@DJ now I'm wondering if we can have our dinner at the park too...it would save a ton over doing it at the restaurant. Time to do some research! thanks!

We were thinking of skipping the rehearsal and having a pizza and beer party in the hotel (in one of the meeting rooms) because there's a wedding at our venue Friday night. This is a fantastic idea to do a little walk through there instead!

Nope. My sister did it. It worked out and people weren't rude about it.

We're having our RD at a park, we just reserved a picnic shelter. I don't think we'll need a true rehearsal, but if we do it'll be at the same park.

I think this is great idea. I have an outdoor venue and they booked for our rehearsal on Friday so we are either doing a park recreation facility or a hotel but I think the park is always a good option. keeps cost low, lots of open space!

If you can't have it at the actual space, then there really is no reason to have it at all. It's walking and standing; if you have your order together, your point person at the venue will send everyone down the aisle and that will be that. What are you going to rehearse?

99.99% of rehearsals are unnecessary. Just go have dinner and relax.

@Celia we decided to do a rehearsal since our officiant has never performed a wedding and most of the groomsmen have never been in one either. I think we'd be fine without one but FH insists.

In your case, Bacon, have the rehearsal.

Usually, the venue is not set up for the rehearsal the same way it will be set up for the ceremony (no chairs, so no aisle, and no arch). When I do a rehearsal under those circumstances, I tell everyone that it will be easier the next day when 'markers' are in place.

Not crazy at all. I think we are doing it at our house.

My Plan B if we can't get into our venue the night before is to use my parents backyard and get take out (or let my dad cook out).

Do a run through at the venue before.

I think you have to ask yourself what you hope to accomplish and if this will do it. It won't really help you with spacing/timing, it's not going to make your officiant more experienced.

A well run rehearsal will take , at the most, 15 minutes if you have the processional organized and written down. Do your first look, plan to stop photos a half hour ahead, do the run through and then hide and have a glass of wine, some new lipstick and walk down the aisle.

We are having pizza and drinks at the local gaming store. They are opening the gaming room special for us that night, so we can use it. FH is friends with the owners, and they are guests at the wedding. Smiley smile
