Regular vs plus size wedding dress stores

Rissaroo1234, on September 14, 2015 at 4:51 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

My body is somewhere in the grey zone in between being regular sized and plus sized. Regular size clothes tend to be too small, but specialty plus size brand tend to be too big. I'm in between size groups.

In standard clothes I'm about a dress size 16 or 18, depending on brand. 16w or 18w is usually too big, but not always.

So, when it comes to wedding dresses, should I be looking at stores that are specifically tailored to plus size brides, or stick to regular stores that offer a decently wide range? What type of place would I be most likely to find a wedding dress for my borderline body size?

Also, my budget is pretty small so price will play a big role in this.

Dress sizes are funny. I've found that they tend to run super small. When I was an 18 street size, I needed a 22 dress size for bridesmaids dresses from multiple designers. That being said, I would look at stores that carry a variety of sizes. For a lower budget look at places like Alfred Angelo or David's Bridal.

I'm a street size 18-20 and my dress is a 24 from David's bridal. I'm a budget bride also so I think you should give them a shot

Bridal sizes are very weird. I'm a street size 10/12 and my wedding dress is an 18, mainly because of my hip measurement. Definitely check out David's Bridal. They have a range of styles and sizes at a decent price. I went to a local dress shop, not DB, and they can order dresses at any size but the problem is that they have limited plus size samples to try on.

My street size is a 14 and they ordered me a size 20 wedding dress. You'll likely have more options to try on at Favids bridal or a plus sized bridal shop. At least you'll be able to try dresses on. Icon lent get into most bridal 12s and they had to put me in 16s and up just to try on.

While Davids Bridal does carry (or at least can order) plus sizes, their sample dresses are all on the smaller size. I tried on 4-5 and was then told they didn't really have anything else I could try on because of my size (18-20). Alfred Angelo on the other hand was different. I must have tried on over 15 dresses there. I did end up getting my dress at a shop that caters to fuller figured women.

I'm a street size 16, I think the wedding size we finally settled on was a 20. I didn't shop anywhere specializing in plus size. I went to three bridal shops and all of them had dresses I could try on.

I would check with the bridal shop to see what size sample gowns they have before going. Many of the shops I went to had sample sizes 12-14, but some stores had sample sizes that ranged from 8 to 26.

    I'm size 12 right now, and I ordered a size 16.

Best bet is going into a bridal store and getting sized by professionals to find out.

Most "regular" wedding dresses go up to a 20 or 22. Even stores that do not market themselves as plus size will have plus size samples. If they don't, they are shutting out a huge part of their market. I am a 14 in normal stores and my dress was ordered in a 20. Granted, I have huge boobs, which was the main reason the size 14 sample I tried did not zip. I went to several traditional shops, and tried on samples in sizes 12-20. Different brands run differently--even though my dress will supposedly fit properly in a 20, some size 20 samples were hanging off me and could not even be clipped enough to look good. I did run into a consultant who was like "well size will be a problem with some of these samples" and made me feel like shit because I got stuck in one size 10 and most 14s were snug. I wanted to punch her and walk out.

I would go to a dress store for this. I am a street size 10/12 but my waist was a dress size eight (street size 4/6) and my hips were dress size 22! So we ordered an 18 and it fit perfectly. It depends on the designer and the dress shape as well.
