Regretting my dress

Tj, on May 16, 2019 at 1:02 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
I fell in love with an Enzoani gown and I had tried on a size 6 knowing it needed to be altered and there was a bit too much fabric. The store said that I really had to buy a size 4 and it was true to my measurements and could be let out in the areas that were too tight. I ordered the 4 and when I tried it on it was so tight I couldn’t breathe deeply or really sit. I know they can let it out in a way that will fix that problem but also the cut of the dress in this size makes my body look awful. I don’t know if an alteration can even attempt to fix my issues. I’m scared I can’t return it- I just don’t want to feel terrible on my wedding day ); what would you do?

Wow this does not make your body look terrible! Find yourself a good seamstress and that will ease your mind.

Have you asked if you can exchange for the 6 and size down in the areas you want? I would start there. If not, ask how much you can let our and see what your options are. I don't think you look awful but I'd want to be able to sit comfortably.

I think you look great!! That dress is beautiful on you. But yeah you definitely want to be able to sit and breathe lol. I would definitely see if the store will allow you to exchange it since they’re the ones who advised you to get the 4. If not, I’m sure letting it out will help, don’t freak out before the alterations

I think it looks great on you! I would also say you ordered a size 4 as suggested and would like the size 6 and then just alter it. I feel like it will be easier to alter it smaller than let it out.

I completely agree with this. They were the ones who told you to order the 4 so just let them know you aren't comfortable in it and would like the 6 instead, then you can alter down the 6 to fit you. I've always heard that you're supposed to order the bigger size and size down, not the opposite.

When I ordered my dress, the place said that the size lower than the one I got would be a better fit (and my dress has some slack since it has a stretchy lining). However, the smaller size was out of stock so I had to order the size that they originally suggested and it fits. It is a tad too tight, but not too bad and if I went bigger, I would have had to pay a lot for alterations since I have a lot of beading.

It's so important that you feel comfortable on your wedding day. You want to focus on the ceremony and the celebration... not worry about snug points in your dress. You also want to sit at dinner and enjoying dancing. If you can hardly breathe, you will spend your wedding day miserable. I would talk to the store owner. They didn't order the size you requested but pushed you into a smaller size. The smaller size isn't working. They are supposed to be the experts. They got this wrong.

BTW: The dress is stunning and you look amazing in it!

Thanks guys they will not take the dress back and get me a new size it’s a custom order. Anyone ever re shape the front of a mermaid dress to make it more drapey? I know the top can be let out - my real concern is the curve of my lower stomach - is that something easy or something I would have to rebuild

Okay, first you look bomb. You can totally let it out in the hips a little which will help any puckering you see in the seams as well as sitting.

It looks so good on you. I would definitely file a complaint. They told you to order that size. But if all else fails you can walk down the aisle in that and then do a dress change

This! in my opinion you look amazing but if your not comfortable in the 4 I would ask the shop if they would be willing to exchange it since they pushed the 4 on you.

Sadly they were really ruthless about it since it’s a custom order. Hoping I can just find an outside tailor and not eat the deposit!
