Regretting Dress Choice

Kata, on June 20, 2016 at 4:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 35

I made my choice this past Friday, and of course there is a no refund or return policy. I feel this worry in the pit of my stomach that I did not make the correct choice, particularly when I look at the pictures of my other choices. I don't know what kind of advice I'm looking for since there isn't really anything I can do about it. I'm just feeling a little down about it, and wondered if anyone here felt the same way, and what you did about it.

Why did you pick the dress you did? Don't go off of pictures...go off of how you felt. You must have bought that dress for a reason! =)

If you truly regret it, go back NOW and try to return it. They may have a no refund or return policy, but almost every single state has a buyer's remorse law that gives at least 72 hours to change your mind on any purchase. Seriously--look up your state's law, and try to use that.

And, frankly, most reputable places CAN be worked with--explain how you feel. If the dress was not off the rack, it's very likely you can cancel before the dress is ever made.

But if you really regret it--DO NOT DELAY.

I see so many dress regret posts---I have questioned my choice a few times because it's not what I thought I would buy. The problem is there are too many dresses out there-it's false that there is only one dress for you. We could probably all find 10 or 20 dresses we LOVE. If you love what you bought, stop looking at other options, or you'll just see one of the other ten possibilities and love that too. You stop looking once you find your FH....stop looking once you find your dress.

I felt the same way, but a few months later, wondering if I made the right choice or if I rushed it! I went back and tried it on recently and fell in love all over again!! I don't think pictures do ANY dress justice and you made that choice for a reason! Think of how you felt when you had the dress on and I would stop looking at other pictures. I think everyone has that these thoughts of did I make the right choice! I'm sure you look beautiful!

I understand how you feel, but I agree with others--stop looking at other dresses. I've done that, too, when I see some of the BAMs and really like their dresses, but then I look at the photo of mine and come to my senses and realize that my dress is perfect for me.

Did you purchase it off the rack? Is it being ordered? It may not be too late to cancel the order. You probably won't get money back, but you could put it towards a new dress if you really want to switch.

BUT - before you do that, take some to think about what you love about that dress (something made you choose it), and what you think you are missing out on. Its normal to feel nervous about such a big purchase. I am totally with everyone else when they say just STOP looking at other dresses once you pick the dress!!

How did you feel when you had this dress on?

Also if there's no way you can return it, try selling it to recoup some of the cost. I feel terrible that you're having instant regret.

Do you have a picture of you in it?

I had immediate regret when I walked out with my dress because it wasn't 'what I had planned on' but I kept this picture of me grinning like a fool in it. Honestly. It's just a dress.

If it makes you feel beautiful and you smile wearing it. Then it's good enough. I hate the notion of 'the perfect dress' there are so many and it just causes so much stress and it's unneeded. It's. A dress.

    For a party.

Feel beautiful. Look beautiful. Get married

Be done with it. You liked it enough to buy it.

I have only shared this with one person...

I had major dress regret. I had it walking out the door, I had it at my first and second fitting. When I went for my last fitting before they close up the dress and I had all my proper undergarments on... I was IN LOVE with my dress.

I have not felt any dress regret, but I tried mine on three different times (all separate visits to the dress shop) before deciding it truly was the one. O would call the shop immediately to tell then how you are feeling, and ask to make an appointment to put the sample back on. Seeing it on you again in person may remind you what made you pick it in the first place. I say to do this immediately in case PPs are right that you may be able to stop the order and apply the payment towards a different dress. You can deal with that if trying it on again doesn't help.

The best way to prevent dress regret is to not look at any other dresses.

I had dress regret exactly like you are right now. I put a big deposit down on my dress, loved it for one day and then the next day I started second guessing if I made the right choice. I waited it out for a week and I had a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach that it wasn't MY dress. I called and explained the situation and the lady poured her heart out to the company I ordered from until they agreed to refund my deposit and cancel the order. This doesn't always happen. But you can definitely try. Good luck!

Share pictures with us please! We would love to help!

As a former bridal consultant I always told my brides once you find THE ONE and you purchase it...STOP LOOKING. Stop looking online, in magazines, at other dresses you tried on...JUST STOP! Your dress is like your fiancé there are lots of great guys out there but when you find YOUR guy, your Prince Charming, you stop looking even if he's not perfect in every single way (they all have flaws but we love them anyways!). You've found your dream dress, now you STOP LOOKING.

This is the one. I love it, but I'm very nervous about it, and worried I should have gone a more practical route. That being said, the more practical looking one was more expensive.

Sometimes I would question myself on the choice I made, then I would remember how much I was petting it, and how hard it was to take it off.

I stopped looking at dresses the minute I bought it though.

For me, I felt what I thought was dress regret that I later realized was stemming from the fact that dress shopping was over. Shopping for your wedding dress is such a unique experience, and you can't help but be a little subconsciously sad or even apprehensive when you don't get to shop anymore.
