Registry Help!

Samantha, on August 2, 2019 at 9:51 AM Posted in Registry 0 6

Hello,

So we are still a year out, but I know we need to start thinking about our registry. Originally we weren't going to do a registry, but my MOH is planning a Bridal Shower for me so I know etiquette-wise it would be best to do a smaller registry so it's not tacky and me just getting cards to open later. We originally were going to do a Honeymoon Fund, but I'm not sure about that anymore with having to do the registry. I don't want to seem gift/money grabby. We have had our home for over 4 years now and we have pretty much everything we need and then some. We don't have storage for new stuff. I'm not sure what type of stuff to put on our registry. Would it be smart to maybe upgrade some of the existing stuff we have? I also thought about adding stuff that would go with wherever we decide to honeymoon like passes, attraction stuff, etc. I'm kinda lost with what to do. Any help would be appreciated!

There are several websites out there that allow for honeymoon funds plus items. A couple we know is getting married in October and they used Zola for their registry.

We put together a small Amazon registry. I didn't want a registry at first, but everyone really wants to buy gifts. And his aunts want to throw me a shower. So I figured it would be better if they bought things we actually wanted opposed to random items we may not like.

I put a lot of gift cards on our registry - both generic visa and a few specific stores like Home Depot.

If people buy the things we registered for - great! If they don't, no biggie, we can purchase them ourselves.

I think it'd be a smart idea to register for things you need an upgrade on. Keep in mind that people may get you gifts not on your registry anyway so your registry is really just a better insight in what you want for people to get you. Doesn't necessarily mean they follow it.

It almost always makes sense to upgrade what you have, especially if you can get nicer items. I’m planning on upgrading most of our kitchen stuff and donating what we currently have as it gets replaced. That being said, I’ll also put some stuff on a honeymoon registry. Most of the wedding websites out there let you sync and combine them so it isn’t as overwhelming for guests.

Definitely do upgrades or extras of some items. You can upgrade small appliances like your coffee maker or vacuum, register for extra towels or linens.

My fiancé and I are doing a honeymoon fund. My future mother in-law actually suggested it since we have been living together since we started dating and have all the items that we could possibly need, atleast the expensive stuff. All the cheaper stuff we could afford to get if we ever had a need for them. We are planning a cruise and we were just straight forward with everyone. We told them in place of presents we would appreciate if they would donate to our honeymoon fund. Everyone in my family I mentioned it to before setting it up actually agreed that it was a fairly good idea and that they would be more than happy to help out!

I can’t recommend the honeymoon registry enough. I was in the same boat, I don’t need anymore household items and all of our guests would rather gift us memories and experiences. It’s not a money grab, it’s funds you’re actually going to use. Everyone loved that we did a honeymoon fund.
