Registry guilt

Regan, on March 25, 2017 at 12:53 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Hey all! We are working through our registry right now and i feel like we are doing pretty well. Most everything is added but we are struggling with the plates. We have an every day dining set on our registry and it is a nicer one from Bed Bath and Beyond. The plates are 35 for a place setting and while they are our favorites, I feel so guilty asking for somethimg this expensive. Do you think we should look for a new set of plates or keep going with what we love?

Keep the ones you want. People can buy one or more place settings and between multiple guests you could get the whole set and it's not a burden on anyone.

$35? No that's not expensive for an entire place setting. I understand everyone has a different budget but that's why you register for a variety of items.

The nice thing about BB&B is that even if people don't buy everything off the registry they give you a nice discount to buy items from the registry yourself. Smiley smile

Why feel guilty people are going to buy what they can afford. Keep the plates you want

I tend to like a range of prices...that way we can go solo on a gift or we'll often chip in as a group to get a more expensive item. Like PP said, solo's could gift a plate setting & if you don't receive enough...you'll get a discount from the store afterwards (can purchase the rest with cash gifts, if you'd like).

Don't feel guilty! I've seen people ask for plates that are $80 to $100 a place setting (china is still very popular in my social circles). I'm registered for 3 different sets of plates--the china we want is $50 a place setting, then we're registered for some pottery style dishes for casual entertaining that are around $70 or $80 for a set of 8 place settings, and then some correlle dishes for everyday that are like $30 for a set of 4 place settings (I love dishes and entertaining if you can't tell!).

Don't feel guilty! I have a $40/place setting set on mine and don't feel guilty. I've had one person buy one and already send it to us. I'm hoping to get the rest of the quality we requested but if not I'll just go buy the rest after the wedding

I have a $500 roomba on my registry! Though I mostly put it on there for the completion discount lol.

I wanted a mix and match look...so I literally registered for each individual plate and bowl. I noticed one of my guests has already bought a bunch of the dinner plates. Which means someone else can pick up salad plates and another can buy some bowls. People will buy what they want and can afford. Which means you may get the whole set from one guest....or you might get it from six different guests. $35 per place setting is very reasonable and flexible!

$35 place setting is fine. Like PP said, people will buy what they can afford and some folks might do joint gifts. Our registry ranges from $10- $300
