Registry Annoyance from a Guest POV (Target specifically)

AMW, on April 27, 2016 at 11:22 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

Tell me, is this common? First time I've run into it.

I was looking through a wedding registry for a couple whose wedding we are attending in June, picked out a few items on their Target Registry, and went to purchase them...and Target doesn't keep the couple's address in the gift registry. I have no idea what their new home address will be, so I can't buy them anything. Luckily I know the bride pretty well so I can call her and get it...but how irritating. Now I know why nobody else has purchased anything off their registry.

Double-check to make sure your registry keeps your address on file for the guests, if you can! Smiley smile

Target does - I got gifts sent to me from my registry. Maybe its the way your friend set it up?

Hopefully! I'll give her a call then. I didn't want to come off as nitpicky/stress her out if that was common.

She may appreciate the heads up as other people won't be able to send gifts from the registry

I think that might be a mistake on your friends part. I had a Target registry and got things sent to my house. She may not have put in her address.

Yeah, I would definitely say something to her. I've bought items off Target registries before and had them shipped directly. I'm sure she'll appreciate the heads up.

    Thanks Kristy! Smiley smile

I texted her and she was lightning fast and fixed it. She had no idea and told me privately that they wondered why they hadn't received any gifts (but they're not rude enough to actually mention it to anyone, of course).

Not going to hide this thread just in case anyone else needs to double-check their registry.

I purchased off a Target registry, and while it wouldn't show me my friend's address (for obvious security reasons), I could select an option to ship to the home address provided by the couple. So it shipped straight from Target to their house.

I think you have to order online to have things shipped. Like the store doesn't have the address, but the website does. Or she didn't give them an address at all.

I think it gives you the option to have your address available. She probably just needs to fix it.

Last time I bought something off of a registry no address was listed. They don't make that info public. Target just sends it to the address the couple gives them but it's not listed for people. ETA I think Macys and BBB do the same. Not sure

@AMV that is a good point and is probably user-error. It is really easy to set up a registry if you already have a Target account, and you may not even realize you didn't include your address if it didn't prompt you to add that information. They're definitely not going to display it with all the fraud happening in recent years. BRB, off to check my registry ...

I'm glad your friend fixed it! I had a Target registry and can't say enough great things about it.

Definitely check online! Her address was in the system but not working somehow..she had to remove it and add it again. Now Target gift wrap and message services are down but that story belongs more on the wtf thread lol. Sigh.
