Registering online vs in store

Jenn B, on July 13, 2015 at 11:59 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

I had another Bridal shower this weekend hosted by some of FMIL's friends and realized that they all had difficulty locating items on my registry.

We registered online- never went into the store- and most of FMIL's friends are old school and wanted to buy in person but nothing was available.

Just a heads up- if you have a shower coming and you registered online only- consider going into the store to add some items if you think your crowd might not be online shoppers.

FH insists that we go into the stores to do our registries because he wants to use the scanning gun.

I didn't even think about that. We did in-store at BBB, but online at Macy's. Didn't even occur to me that some things would not be in the store.

We registered online first, and then I went into the store to finish up. I would definitely recommend that route!

Where did you register? I had that issue with some of Target's items.

Kohls and BBB - also I think people assume that because we registered for that one lasagna pan that it's the EXACT one we want... so they'd search and search for that name brand. We just wanted a lasagna pan. But people stressed about it.

We started our registries in the store, but it was really overwhelming for FH lol. We added most of our things online, but I would definitely recommend going in to the actual store for things like silverware, place settings, cookware, linens, etc. to really see the quality and detail of what you're registering for. Some things, like kitchen appliances, you probably don't need to look at in person to add to your registry.

I did most of my registry things online for BBB and went in to see some flatware (FH also wanted to use the gun) but I regretted it so bad. First, the selection sucked. Secondly, the BBB would not leave us alone. I understand she is there to help but I told her over and over that I already know what I want and need and I'm just adding things on but she hung around. She made my FH so uncomfortable because he felt like he had no say with her always there. Never again!

We went the stores for Crate and Barrel and Macy's - only because Crate and Barrel opened the store early on Sundays for couples to register (which is AWESOME) and I wasn't going to register for China on Macy's website! Registering is really where FH and I found out we had different taste in things (one of us has exceptional taste, might I add Smiley winking ). So we did in store for all our registry items because we needed to look at them in person before registering. I will say, it was SUPER tedious and I wish we could have done more online.

Uuugh but I reeeaaallly don't want to go in-store. I'm lazy. For most big chains, you can also double check to see what's available in your local stores vs online, so I'll be doing a lot of that. Like annakay511 said, I want to go in to see certain items and verify the quality, but I'm doing as much as possible from home, preferably in PJs Smiley smile
