Registering for basic household items? Cleaning, paper towels?

FutureMrsAF, on January 29, 2017 at 1:16 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

Just curious if this is weird or not, I am working on the registry and I'm like "hmm, maybe I should include some cleaning supplies and like a crap ton of paper towels and toilet paper in there". Is that a really weird thing to put on a registry? Obviously those aren't the only things we are registering for, I just didn't want to add them at all if it wasn't a good idea. Thanks ladies Smiley smile

I personally think it's odd. Maybe you could register at a place like Target so you can use any gift cards you may get on things like that? I'm a lazy wedding guest and just get the couple a gift card for whatever store they registered at.

I think it's a little strange. FH wanted to put a new trash can on ours and I said no because it just felt weird asking someone for a trash can. He can use some of the money we get to go buy himself one.

I wouldn't. It's not considered polite to put those things on a registry because they are consumables. It seems like those would be better gifts for a pounding party or a housewarming. (A pounding is a welcome party where you bring a pound of something useful for the home, whether it's food, supplies, etc).

    I mean..you could.

Just expect the side eye from your guests.

    Seriously, don't.

If you don't make a registry you'll most likely get cash/checks. Then use that money as you please.

I would think that was really strange. I would never buy someone toilet paper as a GIFT.

I'm glad I asked, haha. Honestly I should have known that if I was questioning it, it may not be a great idea. Though having never been a bride before I'm all like okay wtf do I get? Smiley smile I did have a trash can on there and it is now deleted!!!

I wouldn't do paper products but if there is a particular sponge or cleaner (wood floor cleaner, tile steamer) add those. Think of things you may use everyday too! Mops, brooms, etc. hope it works out!

I think it's considered not a good idea because people want to give you something you will use for a lot of time to come (i.e. Plates, bedding, traditional stuff), not paper you are just going to throw away. However im sure people will give you gift cards so if you register somewhere like target you can use said gift card to buy regular household items Smiley smile

I registered for some expensive boutique fabric detergent. But I wouldn't register for like, Gain and Pledge.
