Regarding use of Wedding Planner

Sierra, on December 30, 2019 at 7:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 14
Hello, I recently got engaged and my fiance and I are looking at costs for our wedding. I am wondering how pertinent it is to hire a wedding planner? How many of you used a wedding planner for your wedding? Would you say it is necessary? Was it just an added cost that you could have done without? Did you have a month or day of coordinator? Please share your thoughts.

Yes we are trying to have a more economical wedding, nothing terribly huge or lavish, but nice. We are planning to have a bigger honey moon. Thank you for the advice.

I think honestly you can plan it yourself. Wedding venues a lot of $ so save where you can. To me biggest things in my budget are venue and photography.

My venue sort of included a wedding planner, they pretty much do everything for the wedding through their services so there was really no need to hire an additional person. I think had I had a venue that did not include food, flowers, cake...then I would have hired a wedding planner or gone to my most organized friend!

We are not hiring a wedding planner, and I don’t necessarily feel like I need one either. We’re keeping things pretty basic, so I’m sure that makes it easier BUT our venue does come with a day of coordinator which I think I am going to be very grateful for, since they tie together all the fine details of the planning and make sure your day runs seamlessly.

The venues we are looking at come with a day of coordinator. My future sister in law said they had a day of included with her venue and it was so helpful! If I weren’t to have a day of coordinator I would probably ask someone who knows me well / is asking to help out with something to help on that aspect if you are looking to save cost.

We had one and I’m glad but wedding planners are extremely expensive. I was the kind of bride who didn’t care about napkins or flowers or colors etc so I wanted someone to pick all that for me. If you don’t have a large budget and don’t mind picking things out then I would just hire a day of coordinator.

No wedding planner for us, but we are hiring a day of coordinator. She’ll come in the month before to take over vendor communications and will be on hand day of to make sure everything runs smoothly. I highly recommend at least a DOC (your own independent one—most venue DOCs are only there to make sure the venue is protected) so you and your family/friends don’t have to work on your wedding day.

I had a free day of coordinator complimentary to booking my venue. I meet with her a several times before our day and she coordinates with my vendors. It's gonna be great. I feel like I have been able to handle wedding planning without the need of a coordinator. But I think it comes down to what you want to do and what you are willing to do as far as organization goes.

Definitely not. Its my wedding, and my vision. No one else's. I mean, besides the fact of it just being an extra cost, i also have a problem with giving somone the control of styling things. In fact, ive ran into photographers i couldnt work with because THEY wanted to style the whole wedding.

We’re planning ours ourselves and fortunately for us it’s been a breeze so far. My venues give day of coordinators so we’ll be more frequent communication with them over the next few months. I don’t think it’s necessary but I also don’t have experience with hiring a wedding planner. 😊 I imagine they can be very helpful though.

Definitely hire a day of or month of if it's not in the budget for a full planner. I'm a life planner lol I PLAN EVERYTHING but I couldn't see myself the day of my wedding trying to set stuff up, make sure people are where they need to be, get ready and be happy and in the moment all in one day. During the hiring process for a planner, whenever I'd let them know where I was in the process majority of them said I only needed them for the month or day of. LIES! I know myself and know how overwhelmed I can get so I didn't want that stress. I knew I'd need someone to be my backup and remind me of all the little details that you will forget. Plus I've been a DIY girl my whole life and I just want to enjoy this process!

Do good research though...there's different levels to it. Someone can plan from top to bottom for you, partial planning and so on. You get to decide what you let or want them do. There's also a difference between a wedding planner, a full service wedding planner and an event planner. We hired an event planner. She does basically the samething as an WP but her specialty is in event management and that's what I really needed. Take your time, pick someone you can see yourself hanging out with because they'll be your go to for every question, concern, mix up, vendor isssue and emotional breakdown lol. I think it's money well spent! Think about your needs!
