Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Cheyenne, on August 21, 2017 at 3:44 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 6

Hi all, I am having an Outdoor wedding. I want to do as much as possible to reduce trash and such since we are outside. Any ideas for reducing trash?

We are going around thrift stores to find cups, jars, and vases. Any ideas for reusing? I figured to also look at Craigslist and use things from other friend's weddings.

Keeping the wedding green is a lovely goal! Instead of cut flowers for centerpieces you could use fruits and veggies that you can then donate. Skip printed programs and menus, and only print what is necessary on recycled paper, or use signs. You can skip favors too so there is no waste there, or have edible favors like cookies or pastries. And in addition to looking around craigslist there are local wedding swap FB groups, cancelledweddings.com, tradesy, and wedding-recycle.com.

Discuss this with your caterer. Mine is making sure things are properly recycled.

Love this! I'm loving the fruit suggestion. I bet you could find a lot of stuff at thrift stores for your centerpieces!

    - Order plantable invitations and paper goods (we loved the ones from Forever Fiances!)

    - Use potted plants as centerpieces and decor so you can enjoy them before and after the wedding

    - If you want confetti anywhere, make it with a hole punch and flowers or leaves!

    - Use cloth napkins and don't serve straws (a major source of waterway pollution!)

    - Talk to your caterer about composting half-eaten plates and food scraps

If you do decide to use fresh flowers there is a group out there called Repeat Roses that will come and take your center pieces and bouquets and repurpose them. They donate them to cancer centers, homeless shelters, and women's shelters.
