Recorded Music for an Outdoor Ceremony

clarkinseywedding, on April 16, 2015 at 10:16 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

Our ceremony is going to be outside in a covered pavillion at a golf course next May. I'm trying to figure out what to do about our ceremony music. I don't think we can afford to have live musicians plus we both love certain songs and would like to have the version we know played so I think we're going with pre-recorded music. It's a brunch wedding so we're not having a dj so they couldn't do it. We have to provide our own speakers too. Friends offered to lend us their Sonos speaker because the sound really carries but I don't know how to go about starting/stopping/fading the music for the ceremony. Any advice? Music is really important to me so I'd appreciate any help I could get! Thanks!

Someone can be in charge of the music and start to slowly turn down the music, kind of like fading it out. Then click to the next song. That's what we plan on doing. I'm making a seperate folder for the wedding so nothing else can play except what we picked.

I would suggest hiring a DJ lol. They only charge 150 - 200 bucks for ceremony music. I can almost guarantee those speakers won't carry the sound outside. They can work inside where the sound can bounce off the walls. Outside theres no bouncing, Those speakers are MAYBE 100 watts. I would suggest if you're absolutely not going to hire a DJ, see if you can rent their equipment. Youre going to need at least 250 watts to get good sound travel.

Even if you don't hire a DJ, you should ask them to help prep the mix for your ceremony. That can't be expensive... they would basically have a pre-determined mix, you press play, and then it would fade when needed, and have whatever songs you plan to include already in order, with transitions, and beat matched so it is not clunky.

You could even ask a DJ student (from a place like the Scratch Academy) to do this for you.

On a Mac you can adjust the fade of music. That's what I'm going, made the fade overlay by 15 seconds. I've played through my list twice and it sounds great!

I have the same issue! On a golf course also! I'm going to ask my DoC if the venue has anything that we could use as far as a sound system. I think I finally found a job for my useless fsil!

I'm trying to figure this out too. FH's friend is our DJ and he's going to see if we can use some of his speakers for the ceremony. Idk what songs we're even going to use, haha
