Record Doing the Bustle

Kelly, on September 24, 2019 at 1:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

My final appointment with the seamstress is this Saturday. I will be alone - made my peace as someone bailed on me yesterday, I figure that I can just have the seamstress record how to bustle and use that as a tutorial. Has anyone tried this tho, and did it work?

I did this, I had a friend come to my final fitting and film it because she wasn’t in the BP so she wouldn’t be around to do it herself. All of my BP and family live out of state. I just showed my MOH the video the day of the wedding and it worked out just fine.

I would really try to find someone who will be at the wedding come with you. Bustles can get pretty complex and someone trying it without seeing it in person could result in taking a long time to figure it out.

Believe me. I really, really, really tried. Unfortunately, no one from the wedding party can help. I will need someone to be there really, really early.

I picked my dress up by myself (final fitting was that day too), because I wanted to! My mom had been to the prior 3 appointments & dress shopping with me, and I was doing so many wedding things I just preferred to get it myself since I had other errands before and after. I think filming it is a great idea! I didn't, but my photographer & DOC did it because they had done so many and it was pretty straight forward!

If you do this, my big advice is: SHOW EVERYONE. Set aside time with your girls *before* everyone gets all excited and distracted. We um....didn’t. I think *maybe* ONE of my bridesmaids watched part of the video as we were getting ready so everyone was all kinda hyped up. So, no practice run, and just a quick explanation at how to smooth the layers as we looked at or on the hanger— so: make sure people WATCH The video and as I’m talking through it, maybe try to do a trial run after you get in the dress before the ceremony , where they can still see and feel the dress and cross reference the video and not sweat timing.

(what I’m saying is my bustling was kind of a hilarious disaster — picture 3 girls behind me each with a handful of dress and me trying to hand gesture through the smoothing technique...needless to say.. they did not get smoothed. Fully my fault. I thought to take the video, but not to make people watch haha. At bustling time I didn’t have my phone on me [so maybe also save the video on to someone else’s phone too!] so nothing to reference but my babbling, AND I was stressing time and over it so basically said ‘just button it and let’s go!’ instead of having the patience to sort it out.)

Yeah, my mom can't do it. My MOH is working. My one BM cancelled (she moved last week & too much going on), my other BM has a family birthday to go to, my other BM lives on the other side of the country & my other BM said no - she didn't want to do it. I have friends that I could ask, but they live an hour + away, and I don't want to ask them to drive so far.

If they have been married or have been in weddings before, I bet they will be able to figure out the bustle. But I think the video is a great idea if they can't!

Thank you for all the good suggestions - I will definitely do that. It does sound hilarious (of course after the fact).

The seamstress said it was easy because she color coordinates the bustle... so fingers cross it all works out.
