Recommendations for Teeth Whitening

Cristy, on May 18, 2021 at 2:19 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 3 25

Hey everyone! My wedding is in 11 days!! I've got just about everything under control, and finished/paid for/booked. However, I forgot about my teeth!! They aren't horrible, but I was planning on trying to whiten them a bit before the wedding.

Does anyone have recommendations for a good tooth whitener that I can get over the counter in the next few days? I don't have time to find/book a dentist appointment, and I'd rather not spend that kind of money. But I see that there are different kits in the stores, and wondered if any of you have tried them?? Any success?

Any information at all would be most helpful. Thanks.

Personally I love the Crest White strips. They have the Ultra whitening ones that you wear for an hour or so. I have more sensitive teeth so I do it every other day but that should be plenty of time for you!

I’m thinking about going classic with Crest White strips myself, I have super sensitive teeth so I’ll have to start earlier and spread it out, but I’ll be checking this thread for other suggestions too! I also plan to cut out red wine and dark sodas once I start so I’m not fighting against my own progress lol!

Thanks!! Yeah, I've waited too long already, so I'm going to start now and get it as good as I can.

Ok, great!! I was looking at those, but I don't know anyone who has used them, so I wasn't sure. I'll give those a try. Thanks for the tip!!

I have used the Crest White strips many times over the years. Absolutely love them. I have pretty naturally white teeth, but sometimes I feel like a "boost" is needed, and they always do the job just fine. (I think they've also gotten better over the years.)

I have always found that I didn't need the full regimen (usually 7-10 days) to get to my desired shade.

I personally buy a kit and then use the strips every other day for a week or so, resulting in using 4-5 of the strip sets, and that is plenty for a very white smile without giving me the really sensitive teeth. I also found that if I did get sensitive, it went away a few days after I stopped using them anyway.

Dental hygienist here 🤚🏼 Crest is a good option to start with, but if you don’t see the results you’re looking for within a week I would try something else. Opalesence is a good brand which is more professional grade whitening...you can order on Amazon! The kit is about $70 and comes with 10 prefilled trays that you wear for 30 minutes each day. Also, lots of whitening causes sensitivity which you definitely do not want to be dealing with on your wedding day! Start using sensodyne (or some kind of toothpaste with potassium nitrate) a week before you start your whitening treatment.

And no coffee/tea/red wine while whitening! It really slows the process. At least try and drink through a straw if absolutely necessary. 😎

I use white strips, but for a quick whitening I like the Rembrandt 2hr white. I can always notice the difference.

I agree with tooth paste and be careful youbdont make your teeth sensitive that can ruin your day!. Maybe ask the photographer if they can whiten brighten your smile in a few pics, or correct it if the whitening goes splotchy on front teeth which can happen. Personally i wouldnt be very aggressive this close to wedding. Maybe some charcoal tooth scrubs, and whitening tooth paste, drink clear beverages till ceremony ect

That's good to know, thank you!

I already have sensitive teeth. I use Sensodyne already. I guess I'll just have to try it, and see how it works.

The hardest thing for me is the cause of my not-so-white teeth! I'm a smoker, and I also LOVE my coffee!!! I can't give it up altogether. But using a straw is a good idea!! It sounds funny, but if it allows me to still have my coffee during the process, I'm all for it.

Yeah, coffee is absolutely necessary for me. So, I'll try using a straw from now until the wedding. Thanks!!

Where do you get that? Is it in stores? Or do you order it from a dentist?

Great suggestions! I'm a dentist and we get people every day wanting to whiten but then have a coffee habit. Try the straw 'Koffie Straw'. I use this thing MULTIPLE times a day. Not for wine, but anything carbonated or colored.

Also do NOT use charcoal toothpaste to BRUSH with -- it can scrub off the enamel. If you want to, just apply it to your teeth and let it sit there for like 20 min then rinse out. I tried it back in dental school and it didn't work much for me so I stopped, but try it if ya want!

I've used Crest white strips before and last year bought the Target brand strips with the same ingredients to use before our elopement. My husband is a regular coffee drinker and has moderately stained teeth, so I didn't want that to be super obvious against our white wedding wear. The Target strips worked okay but we weren't wowed by them.

I decided to get Zimba whitening strips this time because they are all natural and claim no sensitivity and have really good reviews and the price was reasonable. Neither my husband nor I have particularly sensitive teeth, but it didn't seem worth risking any sort of discomfort before our wedding. We just started using them (we are 2 treatments in, the package is 14 treatments, and our wedding is in 13 days) and my husband already thinks they are working better after just 2 uses. I also looked up the Lumineux brand, which I've also seen advertised on Instagram, but those were super expensive.
