Reception Venue closed?

Valerie, on October 19, 2020 at 5:21 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5
We are having a restaurant dinner reception. Over the summer with covid, the restaurant decided to close and complete renovations. The opening date was set for October 1. Due to covid delays with permits and such, the reopening date is now December 1. Our wedding is set for December 12. (Not panicking...trying not to anyway).

I have to tell my planner and florist by Nov 12 if I’ll be canceling their services. Should we just cancel the restaurant and have our wedding ceremony at the church or hope for the best? Not sure if anyone had experienced this.

That is a tough call. I would personally hope for the best.

Can you explain the scenario to your florist and planner, and ask for a little extra time to give them a reply by? Maybe even just an extra week or two? I would think the restaurant would know by end of November as to whether they are on track to open on time or not.

Great minds think alike Lisa. I asked and they are not budging on date. If I cancel before Nov 12, I’ll lose my non-refundable deposit. If I cancel after final payment (which is Nov 12) I lose everything. THAT makes it hard hoping for the best.

Ah, got it. Sorry that they aren't willing to be more flexible! I would hold out hope for now - maybe start coming up with a back-up plan just in case, and re-assess in early November. The restaurant should know around then how things are going and whether they'll be super delayed in re-opening or not. If things are still iffy in the first week of November, then I would consider switching to the back-up plan.
